Disclaimer: I do not own Professor Layton. I do, however own Ranka, and W owns Whitney.
Professor Layton and the Disease of Consternation
CHAPTER 1
Professor Hershel Layton woke up to a light tapping at his window.
He groaned inwardly, not being a morning person, and glanced at his old fashioned alarm clock next to his bedside. 6:33. the tired Professor thought. Much too early to be awake. Forgetting about the tapping at the window, he crawled back under his covers.
Tap tap tap tap.
Now the Professor was sure he wasn't imagining it. He cautiously climbed out of his bed, over to the window. It was still dark outside and he couldn't see anything.
More taps, louder this time. Layton slowly unlocked the window, unsure of what awaited him on the other side.
A cotton-white bird flew inside; startling Layton and making him gasp. The bird hovered over Layton's head. He noticed that the bird held an envelope in its claw-like feet. He gently pried the envelope out its feet and opened it up.
Dear Professor Layton,
It's been a while since we've said goodbye. How have you been? As for me, I'm all settled in and making new friends. I'm writing to you because something deeply puzzling has happened here recently.
You see, a strange disease has struck our town and has infected everyone. Everyone except me and a friend, that is. Stranger still, there is now way to get out of town. If you try to walk out the main gates, some force shoves you straight back in. We also can't seem to be able to use the internet or phones. The thing is, people are still able to get in our village. Doctors need materials to exterminate the sickness, and stores are running out of food, oil, and gasoline. It seems like a mystery tailor made for Professor Layton and his apprentice. I don't think anyone else could get to the bottom of it.
I recall in one of your past letters to me saying that you had a new assistant, Whitney, wasn't that her name? You said she had a degree in medicine. Maybe she could get some information on this disease. I have sent an enclosed document that has the symptoms of the disease for Doctor Whitney to read.
If you are busy and can't come to my town that is all right. Please write back as soon as you get this letter.
Your friend and apprentice,
Luke
Layton gasped inwardly, and went to his desk, and grabbed a pen and paper.
(A/N) That was shorter than I expected. R&R! ~C
