Look what I found in the woods.
Hi, this story is dedicated to everyone who left a review for "Found But Badly Broken." you know who you are. So now onto the story.
Amanda :D
The forest was quiet as Bruno ran along the path tracking the scent of his prey, he kept getting glimpses of the rabbits as they ran across the track. He could hear his mum and dad in the distance behind him, they were talking to each other and occasionally to him, but only to call him back when he got to far in front of them. As he ran he kept looking up, a lesson he had learned to do after running into dog knows how many tree's when he was little. He stopped when the scent in front of him changed to that of a squirrel, he looked up at the rabbit in front of him and decided to leave it until his walk later in the day, then headed off in the direction of the squirrel.
He had been following the new scent for a while now and was getting a little bored. Suddenly he stopped as a new scent came to him, he moved his head from side to side and started to pace until he found where the scent was strongest. He could tell the new scent was human but there was something else as well, it was a smell that his mum and dad had sometimes when they came home from the place called work. Intrigued he slowly followed it, though he lost the scent a few times he would back track until he picked it up again.
Soon the scent got stronger and he knew he was getting closer, that's when he heard the low whimpering. He thought it may have been an injured animal, and when he found them his mum or dad usually took care of it until it was able to be let go or they would put it out of its misery if it was too badly injured. A few more steps and he emerged into a small sunlit clearing, in the middle was a person. He slowly padded over to it and could tell immediately that the person was not alive, he could not hear the heartbeat. But he could hear a small quickly beating heart and he could still hear the quiet whimpering so he made his way around the still body until he got to a slightly wriggling blanket. He gently poked his nose into the blanket and jumped back when the blanket moved and let out a loud wail.
"What the hell was that." Bruno thought as he sat down and looked closer at the blanket. He could hear his mum and dad calling for him but he wanted to know what was under the blanket, so he raised his paw and gently scrapped at the side of the screaming wriggling mass. He eventually scraped the blanket away and looked down shocked at the tiny person laying on the ground in front of him. He heard his name being called again from a long way away but there was no way he could leave this tiny helpless person alone because when he entered the clearing he had picked up the scent of at least three wolves, the same ones he had seen from the window of his new house in the Forrest.
He heard his dad, Gil, whistling for him and his mum, Sara, calling his name. Now he had three choices that he could think of, first he could go to them and try and get them to come here, second he could take the little person to them, third he could bark his head off and wait until they came to him. He sat and thought for a minute, he stopped thinking of the first choice as he knew he didn't want to leave it on it's own. He found a flaw in the second choice, how was he going to carry it and not hurt it, cause it looked so frail and even his teddies indoors had teeth marks in them and he had carried them gently from his bed to the couch. Now the third choice the only problem he had with that was making the little thing scream more, but then he thought if it screamed loud enough maybe mum and dad would get here quicker. Yep that was it he was going to bark his head off until they came to him.
Bruno took a few steps away and started barking like his life depended on it, the small person cried louder. After a while Bruno stopped barking to listen if they were coming his way, he noticed dad's whistle was closer than before, so he lifted his head and howled like he had done as a pup. When he stopped he knew mum and dad were only a little way away and with a few more barks they came into the clearing. Bruno ran up to his mum and dad and then back to the crying person and looked down at it then looked back up as if to say "Mum, dad look what I found in the woods."
TO BE CONTINUED.
