Senior Prom

Well, this is a random story that I got the idea for while watching the movie 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion'. It's a hilarious movie, and I thought that this scene would make a cute AkuRoku plot... But angstier, of course. Enjoy! R&R!

The dancers swayed in place as the soft ballad played gently throughout the dance floor, their hands on waists and heads leaned upon shoulders. The only ones who were not dancing were two figures leaning against a shadowy wall, away from the others.

"It's gonna be fine, Roxas... she'll appear eventually..." The taller of the two whispered quietly, placing a hand on the other's shoulder. The blond choked back a quiet sob, his eyes swollen from resisting the urge to cry. His life-long crush, Namine, the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on, had abandoned him, and he knew it. Due to being adamant in accepting this fact, he still stood, waiting, on the edge of the dance floor. But he knew that it wasn't any use.

"No, Axel... she's not gonna show up..." Roxas sighed shakily, his body trembling. His fists clenched in anger. "How could I be so stupid in believing that she would ever dance with a freak like me?! I'm such a tool..." The blond whimpered, and he soon found two strong arms wrapped around him, his face buried into Axel's chest. He began to sob freely now, finally letting all the tears go.

"Hey, hey... no, you're not, Roxas... You aren't a freak. Don't let anything she does get to you, you hear me? She just wants to see you get upset and put you down, and don't you dare give her that satisfaction." The redhead murmured into the other's hair, his hand rubbing soothing circles on Roxas' back. Axel let go of Roxas, who began to try and wipe the tears that still trickled down his face. Sniffling, they settled into silence for a while, the only other noise being the music being piped through the speakers and the occasional gasping sob from Roxas.

"Well, you know... you could dance with me... if you want." Axel said quietly, his eyes glancing towards the blond, whose sobs had mostly receded by now. Roxas gave a small and watery smile, accompanied by a short nod. "Okay..." He whispered.

Taking his hand, Axel led Roxas out onto a secluded section of dance floor. Not bothering to take up the classic waltz position, they simply wrapped their arms tightly around each other and swayed to no particular rhythm. Roxas' head lay gently upon Axel's chest, his blue eyes still leaking tears down his face, his gaze distant and forlorn. Axel's cheek lay upon Roxas' hair, his hand gently stroking the other's back. Not caring who watched them, the two danced silently, remaining even as the other couples left the floor.

Suddenly, Roxas felt a finger lift his chin up, and his cerulean eyes locked upon bright green ones. Axel gave a small smile, which Roxas returned, before placing soft lips upon the blond's. The kiss lasted for merely a few seconds, but to both it seemed as though all eternity had been captured in that one moment. Roxas smiled, feeling tears upon his face again. But these were tears of joy.

"I love you..." Axel whispered, his voice barely audible above the music that still resounded around them. "I'll always dance with you." The redhead added quietly, his grip tightening around the other.

Roxas realized that he didn't need Namine. He had someone much better. And as they swayed to the sounds of their hearts beating frantically against each other's, Roxas knew that he would never be alone ever again.
