So this is my try to ease myself back into the Gilmore Girls fandom. I haven't written something for them in quite a while. This One-Shot is set in the sixth season, before Jess shows up, but after Rory's 'I love you'.

I don't really know if it's good, or if it even makes sense, but it was worth a try. It's written to and named after "The Great Escape" by Boys Like Girls.

Disclaimer: As you might know I don't own Gilmore Girls and never will. It really wouldn't have ended where it did if I did.

It's in the middle of the night, when someone knocks on your window. You open it without a second thought, it can really only be one person at this hour. And surely enough there he stands, the smile you secretly love so much on his lips. It makes you smile too.

It only takes two words for you to grab the things you need and climb out the window. Let's go. You think about how you used to be so reasonable and think a great deal about the consequences of your every action, but then he takes your hand and breaks into a run – you have forgotten those thoughts in a second.

It's strange how peaceful the city seems tonight. You don't remember it ever being so peaceful. Is it approving of your actions?

He offers you a bottle of unknown liquid and you take it without a second thought. It tastes of freedom, at least to you. You see him watching you. Then he starts to laugh. It sounds like freedom, too. Pure and full of joy.

It seems like no time at all has passed and still you are already two hours away from Hartford. It feels good … being here with him and forgetting about all your problems. You feel like you want to cry out and thank the gods above for this turn of events – or maybe you just want to thank the man next to you.

You kiss him the next night. The look he gives you makes you bubble with laughter - Totally stunned and like he wants to say 'thank you'. It makes you think of your first kiss. Then he draws you in for another kiss and you forget about those thoughts.

It takes your boyfriend three weeks to figure out that you ran of with one of his best friends. The look on his face after the call almost makes you wish you never did it. It is a look full of regret …

Instead you kiss him and then smile. You might have lost your boyfriend and he certainly lost his best friend. But – you say – you've found something much better. You've found freedom, understanding, love. You both lived for the here and now, not for yesterday and tomorrow. It was the best you could have hoped for.

You're in California when you finally call your mother. It's good to hear her voice again. You've learned a lot from your escape. He learned a lot, too. Maybe that's why instead of saying something about some bag like he did, he says it back when you tell him you love him.

In June you're back in your old town, with him by your side, and watch your mother marry the man of her dreams. You have your life back now and when the semester starts you'll finally be going back to school. That trip – you think – was the best that ever happened to you.

So, it wasn't that long.

I still hope you enjoyed it. As always, please review and tell me what you think. :-)
