Wake up
By: Darcy Canova
You don't know what it's like to have someone that you love, not love you in return.
It's like hell, slowly freezing over.
It's like your heart has been brutally been ripped out of your chest and stepped on.
Like somebody got their teeth and ate your heart out, slowly and painfully.
Your friends with them, but they don't know your true feelings.
You tell them you can trust them with anything since you guys have been friends for years.
But, you're lying.
And you feel yourself lying more.
And more.
And more.
Lying to them.
Lying to other people.
Lying to family.
Lying to yourself.
You grow tired of it and you just want to stop.
But you can't.
So you start hurting yourself.
And people tell you to stop.
That you're only hurting and scarring yourself more, and more.
And you tell them that you can't.
But they insist.
And they tell you that you can.
That if other people can then so can you.
But you can't.
You're begging now.
You're begging on the inside for them to love you.
Begging.
Dying.
Aching.
For a sign that they love you.
You want them now.
You crave them.
But you can't have them.
All you want is them.
All you NEED is them.
To run up in their arms.
To tell them how much you love them.
Have them tell you how much they love you in return.
And one night,
It happens.
They wrap you in their arms.
Whisper sweet nothings into your ear.
Making you giggle.
Explaining why they love you and how much.
And finally,
They lean in for a kiss.
Then…
You wake up.
