Just Being Prepared

General Hammond stood in the gate room waiting to see his favourite team off. He was shocked to see SG1 walk into the room all carrying large, heavy packs.

"SG1, you are only going to be gone 6 hours, please can you tell me why you have packed for what looks like 6 days."

"Oh, you know Sir, just being prepared."

"Colonel O'Neill, care to tell me what you and your team is carrying."

"Teal'c's got extra ammunition and a few knives in his jacket, Daniel's carrying extra MRE's and double the normal amount of Sterno for all of us, Carter's got a ton of advanced medical supplies and some spare batteries for flashlights and I've got extra blankets plus a tent, and we're all carrying an extra canteen and more C4 in our vest pockets." The Colonel ticked things of on his fingers as he went through the list.

"Sir, don't forget the extra sets of clothing were all carrying and more than one GDO." Sam had a smile on her face as she watched the General go from confusion to humour.

"And of course you can't forget the research equipment shared between us and our personal belongings, Sam's laptop, my note book, your yo-yo and a candle for Teal'c."

"Indeed."

"SG1, do you really need all this equipment, I'm surprised you didn't bring the kitchen sink with you."

"Ahh yes, getting Daniel to leave that behind was hard." The Colonel began checking his vest pockets looking for something, not finding it he turned to Sam. "Carter you got the set of cards?" She reached in her vest pocket and pulled out the deck, and then into a pocket on her trousers, revealing a second. "Good, General with your permission, we'll see you in 6 hours."

"Of course, SG1 you have a go." He watched with a amused look on his face as SG1 walked up the ramp and disappeared through the gate.

8 days later...

"Unscheduled off world activation." Walter made sure that the entire base had heard the comment.

"Are you receiving an IDC?"

"Yes Sir... SG1 Sir."

"Open the iris." General Hammond then made his way from the control room to meet his missing team, entering with the medic's and Dr. Fraiser. He was relieved to see his team walk trough looking relatively unharmed, except for a few scrapes and bleeding gashes. "SG1 you have been gone over a week, what happened."

"What didn't happen, that would be the better question Sir. Goa'uld attack, imprisonment, rock slide, cave-in, and finally a damaged DHD, but other than that the mission went great Sir."

Hammond noticed the relatively empty packs being carried by SG1. "Good thing you went prepared then." He watched then in confusion as Teal'c averted his eyes, Major Carter ducked her head desperately trying to smother a grin, Daniel burst out laughing and the Colonel look suddenly sheepish. "SG1?" It was Major Carter who broke the silence.

"Sorry Sir, it's just that throughout the whole mission the Colonel hasn't stopped going on about how he forgot something."

"I didn't think that would be possible with what you were carrying. What did you forget?" Upon receiving no answer from the Colonel, he turned to the Major, only to see her and Daniel doubled over in laughter. Finally he looked to Teal'c he gave him a brisk answer, the General could still see the glint of humour in his eye.

"His GameBoy, General Hammond."

My first shot at humour, hope it worked, Thanks for reading ;)
