I'd Tell You It'll Be All Right But I'd Be Lying

Disclaimer: Nope sorry

A/N When reading the first book I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two characters (Rachel and Joe) and throughout the second book I found myself reading way too much between the lines...Sorry it's short but I'm just getting into the spirit of writing after a long hiatus.

Joe Solomon heard the sobs of his friend Rachel Morgan as he past the Halls of History on his way back to his bedroom. He stopped and detoured down the hall to find his friend Rachel hugging her knees, leaning against the wall outside her office. It was gone midnight and the corridor was dark but he could see the tears dripping down her face as she looked up to him. She didn't try to hide her tears; he was her best-friend. Joe walked closer and slid down the wall next to her, he put his arms around her. She instantly put her head on his chest as he put his arms around her, gently rubbing soothing circles on her back.

They sat in silence, the only sound were her choked sobs.

"What if I'd lost her?" Rachel said breaking the silence.

"Ssh, all that matters is that you didn't."

"But what if..."

"Cammie's one of the best, she knows wha-"Joe replied.

"Chris was one of the best and you know what happened..."She trailed off and turned her head so she was now facing his chest.

His t-shirt was sticking to him due to the tears of his boss but he didn't mind; he knew what she was scared of, and deep down he was secretly scared too, what if something had happened to Cammie?

The adults sat there for what seemed hours, before Rachel's sobs had died down and her heart beat returned to normal. It was only a short time after that, that he realised Rachel was asleep. He smiled gently; she always did look beautiful when she was sleeping, he could've stayed here all night staring at her but instead he picked her light slender frame up and walked down the halls of History on his way to her room.

Once in the room, he laid her on the bed and pulled the covers up to her chin, he was about to leave when she suddenly gripped his arm.

"Stay!" she whispered.

"I can't-" he started but looked again at her vulnerable state, his best friend needed him; and so he stayed, hugging her all night long waiting for the nightmare of the last 24 hours to fade.

They weren't lovers...not just yet, but they were spies and they both knew sometimes a friend is just as good to get rid of pain.
