CHAPTER ONE - GOOGLE MAPS
A man in the middle of his twenties sat on a mildly uncomfortable wooden chair in his small, surprisingly expensive San Francisco apartment. He had in his right hand a Sterling Onion Sandwich, an appalling work of laziness and desperation created by internet celebrity John Sterling. Between its two pieces of white bread was butter and a handful of raw onion. In his left hand was his phone, specifically a Pixel 9 by Google.
He was struggling to operate and hold his overpriced cellular device because his dominate hand was his right, which was covered in butter and onion. Nevertheless, he managed to open Google Maps. This man usually never went out of the city, or even his apartment for that matter, so he wanted to get some perspective.
Now holding his phone with only three fingers, he began to use his index finger and thumb to zoom out from his location. Surrounding services and streets became smaller to make room for ones farther out to come into view. Next was the ocean and bridges connecting the city to others around it. Soon enough he saw the names of nearby cities and towns. Daly City, Oakland, Berkley, Alameda. Zooming out further he could see an overhead of the entire Bay Area, and in the center, a blue dot, his apartment. He felt butter melting onto his right hand and remembered his sandwich. He took a bite. Even he had no idea why it tasted good. Although this man had already begun to feel small, he decided to feel smaller in comparison to the entire world. He zoomed all the way out, on the way he saw California, Nevada, Oregon. Then the entire United States, then the entire continent, then...the entire planet. He was utterly amazed when he tried to grasp all of it.
Then he took another sour bite and kept zooming out...well he tried but was given a window saying that if he wanted to see more, he could download Google Space. The young San Franciscan accepted the offer and hit the "YES" button. He was directed to the Google Play store as his phone began to download the new app.
In the meantime, he decided to check his mailbox. Inside he found bills, advertisements, and a letter from Berkley Williams, his sister. Mr. Williams set the bills and the letter on a table next to the door, then threw the advertisement in a wireframe trashcan.
