Hey, well this is the first fic I have written in ages and the first one I've done for 24 so any feedback would be appreciated.
set straight after the end of day 8. Jack/Renee
Distant Memories
He's running. He should be used to it by now but somehow he thought that this time maybe things could of ended differently. Ended happily, with her. He had left the city as quickly as he could whilst trying to avoid detection. How did things go so wrong again in just a few short hours? Not that long ago they were tangled together in his bed. Happy. A wave of guilt, pain, anger and emptiness washed over him, crushing him with an overwhelming weight. 'No' he told himself. He drew what little strength he had left and forced himself to carry on, as he always did.
Jack wasn't entirely sure how long it took him to reach the small town in Maine where he now resided in a rundown motel. All sense of time had escaped him, but the all-consuming pain still filled him. He lied on his back trying to think of anything but her. He couldn't. Her silky auburn hair, running through his fingers. The softness of her skin and the comforting weight of her in his arms. The smile that had actually met her eyes and the smell that was so uniquely her. Jack found it hard to believe that he'd only know her for two days. It felt like years and the thought of all the time they had wasted in the past 18 months filled him with sadness and frustration. If only he'd tried harder, he should have gone to see her when he'd gotten out of hospital instead of just leaving half a dozen goddamn voicemails.
Why did they have to take her away? Hadn't he already lost enough? He knew he probably deserved it but she didn't. She had been through so much and he felt responsible. Jack couldn't help but left his mind wander further to the future, or what could have been the future. Right now he didn't see himself having his one. He was on the run, wanted by the government he gave his life to. He clenched and unclenched his fists at the thought, all he had sacrificed in order to serve and protect his country. The amount of people he'd lost - Teri, Audrey, Kim, little Teri and now Renee. He tried to push the thought out of his mind and let sleep overcome him. He knew it would be restless, filled with thoughts of her but he had been on the go for over 24 hours and frankly he needed the rest as tomorrow he would have to leave and to where he wasn't even sure yet.
