"Light-kun, do you have a superiority complex?"
Light startled at the question, a bit taken off guard.
"No, of course not," Light answered, careful to give L a confused glance.
L stirred his sugar overloaded coffee, the black orbs of his eyes fixed on Light's face. It was slightly uncomfortable, but Light stared back resolutely, determined not to lose to L's little game.
L brought the teacup to his lips and took a sip, his eyes still trained on Light. After what seemed like an eternity, L spoke again.
"If it makes Light-kun feel any better, I have a superiority complex too."
The silence afterwards was profound.
From that day forward Light doubled his efforts in hastening L's demise.
