Clara stared in horror as The Doctor's edges began to shine.
"No! NO! You can't leave now!" She ran and clung to him.
The Doctor smiled sadly and tightened his arms around Clara's shaking body, "We both know this would happen. You probably better than I."
"I know…but we've only just begun, you and I." Clara's voice wavered.
"The next man is going to finish what we've started. He's going to get to love you and he'll still be me. So you'll have to love him."
The Doctor and Clara shared a watery laugh. "I've only just gotten used to this man. My chin boy." Clara reached up a hand to trace The Doctor's face, cupping his cheek.
"It's okay, Clara. Yours is the only face I've always known, you were there to start my journey and you'll be there to end it." The Doctor winced a little, thankfully this regeneration seemed to be moving slower than the other.
"I don't want it to end!" Clara tucked her face into The Doctor's chest, feeling the wool scratch her cheeks. The sensation brought fresh tears to her eyes. The next man probably wouldn't wear the vest and swishy jacket and bowtie.
"You'll have to be nice to him, Clara. He'll be disoriented and maybe a little confused. But he'll know you, because I know you. He'll recognise you and he'll know you'll help him." The Doctor had begun to cry harder. So Clara hugged him tighter.
"I will. I will." Clara whispered.
"And he'll love you at first sight." The Doctor said.
"How d'you know that?" Clara sniffled.
The Doctor smiled sadly, "Because I loved you at first sight, my Impossible Girl. I loved you then and I'll always love you."
Clara smiled and then yelped as he body began to feel hot. She stepped away from The Doctor.
"I'm sorry, Clara. I wish we had more time." The Doctor was crying. Clara wasn't sure if it was from the pain of regenerating or from the pain of their goodbye. "Ironic, eh? The TimeLord running out of time?"
"Oh, Doctor…" Clara sighed. "I love you so very much."
"I know," The Doctor ground out through the pain, "I love you too."
He gasped and Clara had to shield her eyes against the golden light coming off of him.
"I love you, Doctor!" Clara shouted as the golden light faded away.
"That's a bit forward, isn't it?" The new man smiled a bit at her, a Scottish accent lilting his voice.
Clara stood in mild shock. She had, of course, seen this man before. She'd seen them all. She just didn't know what order they came in.
"Hello, Doctor." She gave a small smile. He was quite handsome, if not as floppy. And not so much chin.
"I know. No more 'Chin Boy'." He said, as if reading her thoughts.
Clara laughed, "No, I suppose not. It's no matter, you'll have a nickname soon enough."
"I'm glad to hear it."
He smiled again and despite his lack of floppy hair and flailing limbs, Clara knew that the adventures that she had continued with her Chin Boy, would continue with this Doctor.
"Shall we find you a new style? I don't suppose bowties and swishy jackets are your style." Clara said, already hating to see the bowtie go.
The Doctor thought for a moment as he took inventory of what he was wearing. "I don't know, I may like the bowtie."
Clara smiled, "Whatever you want, Doctor."
The Doctor smiled, and a small voice in the back of his head said 'Take care of our Impossible Girl.'
A/N: Well hi there, Whoufflepuffs and any other DW fan that's stumbled upon this little fic. It's old news now that Peter Capaldi is our 12th Doctor. I'm actually thrilled with the choice. I did feel the need to throw my two cents into the regeneration fanfic. I'm really fond of this little drabble, seeing as I wrote it while I was stuck in traffic this morning (2 hours!) So I hope you all enjoyed it and, please leave a review or two =)
