The door slammed closed as Chloe entered her small apartment. She was mad, no worse than that, she was furious. Her day couldn't have gone any worse. After a full day at the Isis foundation she had been almost run off the road by some lunatic with a driver's license. She couldn't die, but still, it pissed her off to no end that people like that existed on the road. Had it been anyone else and had he hit her car just a little bit harder, that person could have died. Dropping her purse on the counter, she shrugged off her coat. Forcing herself to calm down, she smiled. Just thinking about her husband made her nerves calm. Hearing the water running, she made her way to the bathroom door.
"Davis?" she called softly and just as she did the water stopped.
Within seconds, the door opened, and her husband stepped out. His smile met hers as they closed the distance between the two of them in a short kiss. Her eyes trailed down to the towel he wore that covered his lower half. They had been married only a few weeks, so the couple were still very much newlyweds. Her eyes rose to his perfectly chiselled body, his abs hard as stone, yet soft to the touch. Her fingers ached to touch him. But she refrained. Stepping backwards a few paces, she smiled again.
"How was your day, Honey?" she asked, trying not to think of her own.
"Okay," he smiled. "Same as usual. Yours?"
Chloe sighed and instantly he knew something was wrong. "Chloe… what is it, Baby?"
Taking her into his big strong arms, he held her close, her small frame fitting perfectly into his large one. After drawing on some of his calmness, Chloe stepped back. Sighing, she crossed her arms against her chest.
"Well… I had a long day at Isis… but it was when I was coming home. Some idiot hit my car and almost ran me off the road!" her voice rose in anger.
"Are you okay?" he asked concerned. Chloe met his eyes and saw them turn slightly red. She reached over and gently rubbed his arm turning them back to their normal shade.
"Yes. I'm just very upset, someone could have been hurt."
"Did you get his licence number?" Davis asked as gently as possible.
Chloe nodded fervently. "Yes," she replied as she looked up at him shyly. "I was hoping you could…" her voice trailed as her eyes lowered and made contact with the wrinkled shirt on the floor beside them. It was covered in blood.
She looked back up at him, a twisted smile forming at her lips. "Never mind… looks like you've already ate supper," she said disappointed.
Davis smiled as his mind understood what she had been about to ask. He gently pulled his new bride back against his chest. After holding her for a second, he pulled away, lightly kissing her on the lips before walking towards the door. Turning around just as his hand touched the doorknob, his eyes met hers.
"There is always room for dessert," he said through a laugh before exiting their apartment.
