Author's note: This was inspired by the idea that perhaps Spike and Dru had broken up before, but always ended up back together. This also includes Portia, who was mentioned in the comic book "Paint The Town Red."
Disclaimer: Don't own Spike, Dru or Portia.
Rating: Probably PG.
The streets of the normally busy city were deserted, the only people outside being the tramps and the homeless children who huddled in their cardboard boxes. None of them took any notice of the woman who fled down the road, her hair flying around her face, and the man who ran after her.
"Dru, baby, please! Listen to me. Nothing happened, I swear! Dru!"
She finally stopped at the corner, eyes blurred with tears which she was determined not to shed. She turned to face him. He'd caught up with her. He moved towards her, tried to slip his arms around her waist, but she shrugged away. Eyes flashing with anger, she finally spoke.
"Miss Edith tried to warn me. She told me the stars hid from that woman, so afraid they were. And the sun wanted to burn her, but it couldn't reach. She told me to keep away, that she would take my Spike from me."
"Dru, nothing happened! That Portia, she's a real cow, she'll do things like this for her own amusement. Please!"
Portia was a vampire like themselves. She was well known for being a flirt and she loved to corrupt anyone, human or not. Just when she knew that Dru was about to walk through the door, she had flung her arms around Spike's neck and kissed him. Now he had to convince Drusilla that that was what happened.
Dru turned and began to walk away. Frantically, Spike called after her.
"You know you'll come back to me. This has happened before. You won't stay away for long!"
Drusilla knew that as well as he did. She would go back to him, after all, she loved him and couldn't imagine being without him, now that Angelus had disappeared. Still, it wouldn't hurt to stay away for a few days. He'd want her all the more when she returned.
