Chapter 1

Judy POV

The ZPD was a harsh place to work. Chief Bogo was not the easiest guy to please. Hard work and dedication didn't even make him happy. But me and Nick have our ways of getting the job done. Me and Nick. Nick and me.

It was a usual Tuesday. I walked into the Zootopia Police Department with Nick, ready for whatever Chief Bogo wanted. Officer Benjamin Clawhauser, a fellow officer and cheetah who worked at the lobby entrance, was eating chocolate donuts with dark roast coffee. Nick Wilde, my partner, tugged my outfit sleeve and pointed to the coffee machine. "I could use a cup," he said to me. I rolled my eyes. "Fine," I said to Nick, and I ran over and poured him some coffee. As we walked and drank our coffee (yes, I poured myself some) we ran into Chief Bogo. He pointed to the room where we were assigned missions, as I like to call it the Mission Room.

Inside, it was dark. I saw a piece of paper on the floor and ran outside of the room and locked Nick in. "Everyone's in there, right?" I asked Bogo. He nodded, and I checked the paper:

Officer Francine (elephant)
Officer Grizzoli (polar bear)
Officer Fangmeyer (white wolf)
Officer Delgato (tiger)
Officer Wolford (wolf)
Officer Higgins (hippo)
Officer Snarlof (polar bear)
Officer Trunkaby (elephant)
Officer Anderson (polar bear)
Officer Johnson (lion)

"Great!" I said. "Everyone's here." I puffed up my chest and we walked inside. I ran up to Nick. "We have very important news, Nick!"

Just as he was going to ask what it was, everyone jumped out and said, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK!"

Nick stood there shocked and smiled. He ran over to me and hugged me, then everyone came and jumped onto the small red fox. He laughed. "I knew it was coming, Judy," he joked. I sprayed fake fox repellent and we laughed and talked about the strangest things. Oh, it was fun! We sat down and I touched his paw. I kissed him on the cheek and he blushed, but I could see him smiling. "You're a trustworthy fox, Nick. You're a trustworthy fox."

But I would never expect what would happen to our relationship after the mission we had just received.
