Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice doesn't belong to me

When Paths Meet

Bruce Wayne didn't believe in coincidences. There were no accidents; everything happened for a reason and right now it was his job, his obligation, his right more like, to get into Lex Luthor's house and get the information about the White Portuguese. It really wasn't fate or chance that Luthor had chosen that exact moment in time to invite him to his home and much as he hated traveling to Metropolis, Bruce wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. He would get the information he needed.

He stood near the back of the room and waited for the right moment, he was barely aware of any of the other guests until he saw her. He could lie to himself that it was her beauty that captured his attention but it was more than that, there was something in the way she carried herself that made him spare a few precious moments – time that he didn't have at all - to stare at her.

"What do you think about this vigilante, Batman?" Clark Kent, a reporter from The Daily Planet asked him. Bruce stared at the man wearing a well-worn suit and glasses, he didn't have to defend himself to anyone certainly not to that reporter, who knew nothing about him and why he did the things he did, but there was something about the way Clark Kent spoke that gave him pause. Still, he had things to do, information to get, a way to protect the world from the alien – Superman.

Bruce shook his head, he needed to be clear of all distractions – from the mysterious woman who'd unwillingly grabbed his attention and this Clark Kent – he needed to focus on the White Portuguese and the secrets he was carrying.

"I take it the evening was not a success?" Alfred asked him.

"You could say that," Bruce replied, "the drive was stolen."

"How did that happen?" Alfred unsuccessfully hid a smile.

"You had to have been there to believe it," Bruce said.

"Don't tell me someone got the better of you?" Alfred asked.

"Of course not," Bruce replied, "you know me better than that, not that it matters I'm going to get it back."

"As soon as you've located her," Alfred finished for him.

Bruce didn't bother to ask how his friend knew that it was a woman but he would find her and learn everything about her. He made a mental note to find out as much as he could about Clark Kent as well.

"Where is the spear?" Superman asked him. Batman didn't bother to answer, but he was glad to note that Superman was bright enough to recognise that the spear was the weapon that they would need to bring Doomsday down. He also wasn't surprised to see Wonder Woman standing there with them; truthfully he couldn't think of better people to have by his side as they faced the alien threat.

He only wished they had had time to get to know each other better. Then again, who knew maybe after Doomsday had been destroyed they could all go out for a drink. He had a feeling that they would need it.

The three of them stood for a moment and then they all charged towards Doomsday.
