A Town Meeting
One shot (For now)
Dedication: I dedicate this one to both Teagan and Kendra. I watched Edward Scissorhands at Teagan's house for the first time. This inspired me with my love of all things Burton. Kendra and I share the Burton-obsession, although I have a far worse case.
Disclaimer: Yadda-shmadda. You should know the deal by now, the only thing the authors of these fanfics actually own is the plot. And maybe a few characters.
BANG! BANG! BANG! The pounding on the door matched the pounding in Jack's skull. He grudgingly clambered out of bed and trudged down the stairs. As he descended, the knocking grew louder and was punctuated by the strident shriek of his doorbell. "Hurry up Jack! You don't want to be late for the meeting!" yelled the mayor.
"What meeting?" Jack rubbed his eye socket sleepily. "We're having a meeting?"
"Yes, of course! Don't you remember? I told you yesterday that I had planned a meeting to come up with new ideas for this Halloween! We only have 273 day left!"
"Is there anything I need to bring Mayor?" Jack asked with a sigh as he opened the door.
"Only if you have something in particular."
"I'll be along in a minute. I have to get dressed."
"Ok Jack. See you there!" Jack shut the door and closed his eyes. It was going to be a long day.
Jack Skellington walked to the town hall. Everyone was inside waiting for him. As soon as he entered the room, the townsfolk quieted down. Jack sat down in the last row of benches while the mayor went to the podium to talk. "Citizens of HalloweenTown! It's time to elect our mayor again. Do we have any candidates who want to run?" No one volunteered. "Well then, as I am the only person on the ballot, I win by default. Now, Jack, please come up here, it's your turn to speak."
The Pumpkin King walked up to the podium. He started to talk about what he planned to do next year but a wailing interrupted him. It slowly grew louder and louder. "Please, please, settle down!" Jack yelled. In response, the howling from the ghosts became even more earsplitting, if that was possible. As more ghosts joined in, the din reached a nearly unbearable volume. "WHY ARE YOU YELLING SO LOUDLY?!?" Jack screamed. Suddenly the disturbance stopped.
"Because we can."
"Okay, well, do we have any sugest..." The ghosts began to shriek again. Jack decided to let them shout themselves out; after fifteen minutes, the spirits were still going strong. "CAN YOU BE QUIET SO WE CAN FINISH THE MEETING!"
"Fine. We didn't want to come here in the first place." With that the ghosts left the town hall. The Pumpkin King put his head in his hands. Jack's headache was even worse.
"Does anyone have any suggestions for this Halloween?" The few ideas the townsfolk could come up with were slight variations of what they had done last year. "Are we done here Mayor?"
"Yes Jack. Everyone let's go home!" The mayor still looked happy, as though the ghost had never caused any problems.
From that day on, the ghosts never went to another town meeting.
Author's Notes: I was wondering why the ghosts don't show up in the town meeting so I came up with this. Please review! Tomorrow is my birthday! That's right, this year my birthday is on Super Bowl Sunday. I have something else to admit. I'm a Tim Burton newb. I first saw Nightmare in December of 06! I know! 3 months ago. Since then I have seen it about 12 ½ times. I got some of my birthday presents early and one of them was Nightmare on DVD! I'm so happy. So, since you can't give me real presents, give me reviews! Please?
