The members of Avalanche were silent. The shock still clung to them all. Nobody could believe that the sweet, kind Aeris was dead. It just was not right. She was too innocent, too pure to die. Or maybe the Planet had just decided she was too innocent and pure to live in such a terrible world. Either way, it was not easy to accept.

Everyone kept to themselves that night, mostly staring ahead, lost in thought. The occasional sigh or shift of body broke the silent air but other that there was no noise. It almost seemed disrespectful to speak.

However, there was somebody missing from the group as they sat around the abandoned house in the Forgotten City. Their blonde leader, Cloud, was outside somewhere, probably staring at the lake, as he had been three hours before when Tifa had went looking for him.

Cloud didn't think he should be with everyone else. He had asked them to join them after he had laid Aeris to rest but he didn't want to be near anyone when it was not necessary. He feared Sephiroth would use it against him as he had done with Aeris.

He cursed himself for being so weak. He should have pushed her out of the way before the sword cut her, or pushed himself in front. Or maybe he should have just been stronger and resisted her beautiful features and flirty personality. Then he wouldn't have fallen in love with her and Sephiroth wouldn't have used that weakness against him.

If he hadn't been so weak, he would have resisted Sephiroth's controlling powers and then he would never have handed over the black materia or hurt Aeris and then she would never have had to leave.

If only he hadn't been so weak…
