A Promise of Hope

PG-13/Teen

AN: This is a short bit on the Greek Grim Reaper, Hecate.

Disclaimer: These are legends that I've simply borrowed.

The ground was soaked with blood. Stepping away from the metal that had once been a bus, Hecate frowned upon the bodies that were scattered about the street. Two cars were piled up upon each other in the middle, almost looking as if they were somehow connected into one. Stripes of metal coated the ground leading all the way up to the shell casing of the bus.

Glowing orbs of souls floated, waiting, confused as to what for.

She made her way, hands gently reaching out in guidance. At first the souls stepped back. Afraid. Normal.

"It is alright children," A lite accent swam across over her words in such a gentle manner, it sounded as though every word were a bridge to a song "let me help you."

Bodiless souls formed into the shape they'd been when walking the Earth. "Are... are we dead?" A young woman, about the age of seventeen asked as she cross her arms over her chest in a defensive posture.

She nodded. "Yes, but only the bodies of which you walked in this lifetime. Now you must move on, to be reborn into your new lives."

The blonde looked baffled, then irritated by those words. "What if we don't wish to."

Hecate frowned. "Then you shall walk the Earth in complete turmoil over what you have lost. You'll feel nothing but sadness and grief."

Looking down at her floating feet, the blonde looked as though she were fighting off thoughts in her own mind. "I...I don't like either option, in all honesty."

She felt sorry for the spirit, really she did. Not many ever seemed to pull her so sympathetically on their side. But she had a duty.

"I promise you this. When you are reborn, it will not hurt nor harm. You will be what ever you wish to be. And you will have a long and lasting life until you grow old."

A few moments passed until the woman sighed and stepped forward, placing her hand into Hecate's. "Promise?"

She smiled. "Yes and I'm not one to break my words either."

"Okay."
