The true beginning of our end. Act five Scene 1, Midsummer's Night Dream, William Shakespeare. Seems to apply here, the government's enemies just destroyed the city. The blast was quite bright. I was supposed to meet up with Granger in a park tomorrow. Apparently he has a copy of Romeo and Juliet, I need to memorize acts 4 and 5.
Hmm…It doesn't seem like I'm doing this very well. I found a notebook a couple of days ago and I decided to write my own book. The American government decided that Book were bad, and now their all being burned. The Book People, or bookies as I call them, are trying to combat the governments actions, unfortunately books tend to be heavy so we memorize them. I myself am partial to the works of Shakespeare, I know all of Midsummer, Henry VIII, King Lear, Cymbeline, and most of Romeo and Juliet, and The Tempest.
My name is Jessa by the way, I'm 19 or somewhere around there. I've been a bookie for all of my life, you see my parents were bookies too. My dad was an English professor and my mother was a Librarian, before the banning and burning of course. They decided that a society without books wasn't a society worth living in, so they packed up all the important things in their life and hit the tracks. They met Granger, joined his group and a few years later had me. When I was young my parents taught me children's stories, as I got older they taught me more. I probably have about 50 or 60 books stored in my mind somewhere just from what they told me.
When I was about 12 my parents got captured by the authorities in Chicago I never saw them after that and Granger became kinda like a father to me. When I turned 16 or so I got sick of life surrounded by hobos eating beans warmed up in the can talking about how life use to be. So I left. I went out to explore the country I met up with other bookies, we shared our stories I learned about the country. It was fun. It was also when I discovered ole Bill Shakespeare.
Mary taught me about Shakespeare. She was a kind old lady living in Memphis. She use to be a drama teacher now she was a bookie specializing in the bard. We spent three months together and over that time she taught me all the Shakespeare I currently know. You see, she knew she was getting older she was pushing 70 when I met her, and she wanted someone to "Remember the Bard," as she put it, after her death. After she had taught me all she remembered we parted ways, and I went in search of the rest of Shakespeare's works.
Man I'm really not that good at this. I keep rambling on about the past when I should be dictating the present. The city I was supposed to meet Granger in now appears to be gone. Hopefully he wasn't in there yet. Anyway it's getting late, I'll have to look for Granger and his book people tomorrow.
