A/N: A quick one-shot I wrote about a month ago. The idea for it was from my beta. She only gave me the couple to write, rather than an actual prompt. And this will most likely remain a oneshot.
Another Kathy/Zero. I'm becoming addicted :'D
Paring: Kathy/Zero, mentioned KathyxVin.
Also, I swore in it once, so please don't kill me.
Disclaimer: I always did say that I will never own it. And guess what? I don't!
It happened to be the only thing that kept her sane.
Knowing that when she woke up and saw ice blue eyes looking around the dining area, her cocky smile and the way she looked effortlessly attractive was enough to keep her happy for the day. If only just her girlfriend's smile would be enough.
"Kathy! Are you listening?"
Kathy turned to face Bertha, who was giving her a disapproving and stern look.
"Of course I was, Bertha." She replied, and turned back to watching Zero.
"Yeah, right. What did I say?" Bertha prompted.
"..." 'Shit.' "Um, you said... Something about Mr Soper's class?" Kathy guessed.
"No, I didn't." Bertha said, "Jeez, Kath. It's ok to stare away somewhere dreamily, but control your crush on Vin." She giggled.
"Right..." 'Crush on Vin? I haven't had a crush on Vin since I actually started dating the only person who would probably ever like me as more than a friend.' "Sorry, Bertha. I couldn't help but let my eyes wander... I really would have liked to listen. How about you repeat what you were saying."
Bertha beamed happily, and started talking again.
Kathy nodding eagerly for the next few seconds, but became tired of the conversation quickly. She looked over, her eyes locked with hers.
I smiled at her, but she didn't smile back. It was more like a slight upturn of the lips, like a smirk. Then she turned away.
It was enough. It was enough to keep her sane.
