The Lost Love
by Maria Stars
(Moody river, moody river)
[Chorus]
Moody river, more deadly than the vainest knife
Moody river, your muddy water took my baby's life
A lone figure stood by a riverbank staring at the muddy water. The wind blew his dark hair around his face.
Last Saturday evenin' I came to the old oak tree
It stands beside the river where you were to meet me
On the ground your glove I found
With a note addressed to me
It read, "Dear love, I've done you wrong"
"Now I must set you free."
"No longer can I live with this hurt and this sin."
"I just couldn't tell you that guy was just a friend."
In one of his hands he held a lady's glove. A note lay open ontop of the glove. His love had left the note for him letting him know of her wrongdoing and her way to atone for it.
[Chorus]
"Why? Why did you leave me?" The figure asked to on one. "I loved you, even if you were untrue."
I looked into the muddy water and what could I see?
I saw a lonely, lonely face just lookin' back at me
Tears in his eyes and a prayer on his lips
And the glove of his lost love at his fingertips.
He looked into the muddy water and saw his reflection on the water's surface. He could only imagine what went through her mind as she plunged herself into the cold, dark water. The tears were in his eyes as he said a prayer for his lost love.
[Chorus]
The wind blew the leaves down from the tree the figure stood at. A leaf landed on his shoulder. A second figure approached and brushed the leaf from his shoulder.
"I'm sorry for your loss."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." The second figure leans lightly against him to comfort him.
