Chocolate Amber

Amber sighed as she hung up the phone. Leave it to House to be to drunk to drive home. Amber quickly scribbled a note to Wilson and slipped it under his pillow. Grabbing her beige coat, she walked briskly to the bar.

As Amber pulled the heavy bar door open, scents of cigars and stale beer flooded her senses. A little woozy already, she scanned the packed room for House. When she finally found him, he was slumped over at the counter. He looked up at her with sad, drunken eyes as she helped him off his over-boozed ass.

The bus stop was right out front but the night was chilly. Amber pulled her coat tighter around her lean frame and waited.

The bus came not five minutes later. She helped House into a seat near her's, and sat on the cold, hard bus seat. She dug her bottle of Chocolate Amber body lotion from her purse and smeared a bit on her dry hands. She inhaled the sweet-yet-spicy scent of her favorite body cream. Amber wasn't sure why it was her favorite, maybe it was the scent but maybe it was the description on the back of the tube, which read , "Honeyed chocolate and rare vanilla orchid embraced by golden amber. Daring. Romantic. Unforgettable."

Amber was certainly doing something daring and unforgettable, but this was in no way, romantic. 'Maybe I could change that...' Amber thought slyly, but quickly pushed that out of her head. She had a wonderful boyfriend who loved her so much, and she could never hurt him like that.

She smeared more lotion onto her smooth palms, wondering how she got into that nervous habit. Amber didn't know why she loved Chocolate Amber. It certainly wasn't as powerful and strong as Cuddy's Ralph Lauren, it wasn't as bubbly as Cameron's Vanilla Bean Noel body mist, and it was way more thrilling than Thirteen's plain, bland, Fresh Vanilla. Amber didn't understand why House picked plain old Fresh Vanilla instead of mysterious, cunning, Chocolate Amber. That thought, just the thought of losing, was enough to make her blood boil.

Suddenly, a woman screamed out in pain. Then, more screams followed as she was flung to the ground. "What is goin-ouch!" She wailed out in agony at the sharp pain in her upper leg. Too scared to look down, she slowly closed her eyes, trying to dull the tremendous pain.

She didn't re-open her eyes until she felt a hand grasping her wrist. It was House. Unable to say much, she groaned out. "I-I'm...c-c-cold." She stuttered. 'Why did I say that? I'm not cold...' was her last thought before drifting off into complete blackness.

The next time Amber opened her eyes she saw she was in a bed. Maybe that was all a terrible dream after all.

That optimistic thought was shattered when she saw Wilson leaning over her. "You know where you are, right?" He asked. Before Amber could answer, Wilson did. "You're in the hospital. You were in a bus crash."

As she heard her boyfriend utter those words she felt her eyes water. Out of nowhere there was a huge buzzing in her ear. It was horrible! She could see Wilson's lips moving, but heard nothing.

Finally, when the buzzing stopped and she could hear again, Wilson asked, "Why aren't you mad?" Wondering why she would be mad in the first place, did she miss something when she was temporarily deaf, she answered, 'I don't want that to be my last feeling."

Wilson's watery eyes overflowed with tears as he choked out "I love you, Amber." She looked at him, one last time with her eyes glazing over and said, "I love you, too."

The last thing she felt was Wilson's hot tears landing daintily on her bruised and bleeding cheek. " I really love you."
