We landed in downtown London. Around 2010, I think. As I leapt out of the TARDIS, I told the Doctor I would be back in a few hours, and to wait for me there.
Two and a half hours later, I returned to the TARDIS holding a medium sized box carefully in my arms.
"So?" The Doctor inquired.
" 'So' " what?" I asked.
"So what's in the box that you so urgently needed to get?"
"what you mean this thing?" I asked, carefully indicating the box.
"Yes, that, do you see any other boxes around here?" He retorted.
"Well," I replied, "as a matter of fact what is in this box is a little gift for you in order to thank you for saving my life so many times."
The Doctor looked pleasantly surprised as I said this. "For moi? You shouldn't have."
"Oh," I said "I think this is something you probably need."
As I said that, I carefully put the box down on one of the seats in the control room, and opened it up, with my back turned to the Doctor.
As I turned around to show him, I held up a small tortoise in my hands.
"Ta-dah!" I proclaimed proudly.
The Doctor looked slightly puzzled, but quickly put on a smile and said "A turtle! How lovely. . ."
At his look I realized I'd have to explain the genius of my gift.
"Well, you know how you told me that you were nine hundred and something? Well, i figured that it would be hard for you to find a companion or friend that could live nearly as long as you, and while a giant tortoise's life is still pretty short compared to yours, it's the best i could do."
At the Doctor's slightly stunned expression i said, proudly, "They can live to be over one hundred and twenty years old. It's a boy, by the way. And don't you dare ask me where I got a giant tortoise from, let's just say I know a guy."
The Doctor's face had slowly gone from stunned to very serious, and I was worried I'd offended him somehow.
"Umm, I could probably take him back if you like. . . "
"Take him back? Martha, this is quite possibly one of the most thoughtful gifts anyone has ever given me!" As he said this, he carefully took the tortoise from me and placed it in it's box, and swept me off my feet in a huge hug.
As he hugged me he said quietly into my hair, "Thank you, truly, thank you. He's perfect."
He abruptly put me down and said suddenly, "I shall name him George and he shall be mine and I shall love him and take care of him for as long as we both live."
I smiled, "George is a perfect name for a tortoise!"
After that we went out shopping for the things George would need to live aboard the TARDIS, and I like to think that George will now live happily ever after with the Doctor.
