So much stuff had gone wrong in Karkat's life, he stopped counting. Especially when it came to the amount of people who hated his very existence.

There seemed to be only one person he could count on. That person was his best friend Gamzee Makara. He was almost certain that the stoner juggalo was the only person for him, relationship wise as well as friendship wise.

Gamzee was always there for Karkat. He knew the boy's life story, about how his father hated him, his mother dying, and his older brother abandoning him and running off with some guy. He knew how much Karkat hurt everyday. Gamzee even knew of the boy's unhealthy relationship with razors. Of course, he couldn't stop the short boy. It was his only meaning of escaping and feeling better about his life. On the other hand, he did worry for Karkat's well being.

Looking at Gamzee, you wouldn't see him as a person to be observant enough to worry for people, when in actuality he was quite observant and cared deeply for his friends, even though he'd lost so many when he'd had a moment of mental disability a few years back.

In addition to Karkat's mucked up life, Gamzee has his own shit to deal with. His father left him and his two brothers a long time ago, causing the oldest to lose it and become a raging douche bag who just loved to scream and attack his younger brothers. Kurloz, the middle child, had gone mute a while back from a traumatic experience, in which he snapped, too, and started to chew his own tongue off. Luckily, Gamzee had gotten him help before the organ was gone.

Karkat guessed that that was why they fit together so easily. Neither of them had easy lives or anyone to depend on other than each other.

Karkat had always had feelings for Gamzee, though since their junior year, they'd been escalating. He hoped it wasn't obvious how mad he was for the tall, lethargic teen. He didn't want to back up the rumors of him being gay. That'd just make matters worse for both him and Gamzee.

After all, who would want to admit to dating a short, pale, lanky boy who has a foul mouth and scars covering his body?
