Note: If you're looking for romance, move a long please. Seriously I
wanted to try something that didn't have any romantic overtures in it, this
was the end result.
The father of the man was a boy.
She rocked him to sleep at night. Held him close when he'd let no one else see him cry. He was after all a boy trying to be a man. It was hardly a fair thing to ask of a boy hardly more than 15 years old.
Of course if you listened to him talk when he was around the others he was full of false bravado that while no one believed or took seriously, they still presumed that he was able to handle all that was going on.
She often wondered why Professor Xavier never found out, never even felt his loneliness. It could be simply that he was trying to cope with Scott, Logan and any other mutant with a problem to do with the world or otherwise. Bobby's problems only shattered his world not mankinds.
Jean shook her head; anyone else would be better at this than her, like Ororo for example. She was closer to his age or even Piotr, they were friends but no, Jean was the only Bobby would talk to about things outside girls.
The now familiar thread of anger simmered quietly, really Bobby could, should go home for a while. What was wrong with a boy that froze his meals before eating them? At least he didn't freeze the girls bras anymore. He needed his family, he didn't need to watch his comrades go down in battle, coming under a constant barrage of emotional scarring. To say that the whole ordeal with Shield had disturbed him was an understatement.
Bobby needed a girlfriend; Bobby couldn't have one because of his tendency to spill everything once the girl had kissed him. God, don't ever let him marry a telepath.
Right now Bobby was in love with white haired wind goddess. Thankfully it had distracted him from falling in love with her and their friendship could continue on unabated. Well it wasn't that Bobby would love her, but 15 years old boys had crushes and for a while she had been the only other girl in the house unless you counted Andrea the cook. Who, in Bobby's words "wasn't, um, crushable." It sounded like something he got of those corny teen shows, the rest don't know he watches.
Booby stirred his blonde head from her shoulder. Sniffed twice. "Sorry."
Jeans eyebrows arched, "no need to be, anyway not crying causes permanent brain damage."
His face became alarmed before he realised she was joking. Turning bright red, he managed to glower at her at the same time.
Jean couldn't help but laugh at him and socked him lightly in the arm.
"You won't tell the others?"
She shook her head, bemused. "As long as you don't freeze my bra."
He studied her thoughtfully and shrugged. "Deal"
"Word of warning," she told him lightly, "Ororo doesn't appreciate it either if you're trying to impress her."
"I have to otherwise Piotr will find out and he'll crush me."
"Not if you freeze him first. " She suggested, her mouth twisting in suppressed amusement. Bobby was taking her seriously.
He tilted his head sideways, considering her suggestion. "Nah, then 'Ro will hate me but." He stopped.
"Yeah?"
"Would Piotr rust if I froze him when he was in his metal state."
"Bobby scat! I've a paper to finish."
He ran out of her room but paused at the door to call, "Or will I melt if I stay out in the sun to long?"
Jean laughed bitterly after he said that, a stray thought of his brushed her mind; a huge puddle with an X in the middle of it.
The X-man was in the end just a boy.
