Pony P.O.V.
"Move it, move it, move it!" Coach Burns shouted. It was Friday and it meant todays practice was all running. It was everyones least favorite day and it really sucked on days like today when it was blazing hot.
I was running sprints when the volleyball team came out. I glanced over and caught sight of the new girl, Ellie Scout. She had just moved here from Alabama about two months ago. She was really good at volleyball and helped the team improve a lot. Not to mention her accent was real cool and she was extremely pretty.
"PONY! Step it up!" I sighed and started to run faster, passing two other runners easily. The rest of practice drug by and I kept sneaking glances at Ellie. Once, she caught my eye and waved. I was trying to convince myself to go and talk to her when practice was over.
"See ya Monday, Pony." Albert called over his shoulder. I waved goodbye and started to take my shoes off.
"Hey there." I looked up and shielded the sun from my eyes. There stood Ellie smiling down at me, a volleyball bag slung over her shoulder.
"Oh, hi." I said, standing up.
"I'm Ellie." She smiled holding out her hand.
"Ponyboy." I said shaking her hand.
"You're a good runner." She complemented.
"And you're a good volleyball player." I smiled.
"Thank you. Are you in 10th grade too?" She asked.
"Yeah, I think we have 4th and 6th together." I told her, leaning down and picking up my bag.
"I think so." She said trailing off.
"Do you wanna maybe get something to eat?" I asked as we pushed open the gate to let us off the field.
"I'd like that." She nodded.
Thinking back to that day, I'm so glad I asked her out. That was almost a year ago now, and so much has changed. We were juniors now, and it was almost summer again. Soda and Steve had just got back from war and it was still hard on them. Soda had been shot and almost lost his life. I was never more thankful for him than I was now.
Darry had lightened up a lot. He had a girlfriend now and she was real sweet. Great cook too. He was as happy as he'd been in a long time.
"Hey there." Ellie laughed as she sat in my lap. I laughed too, and gave her a long kiss.
"You know it's been almost 9 months since you asked me out." She smiled.
"I know." I smiled.
"We could've had a baby by now." She joked.
"No babies for a while." I shook my head. She threw her head back and laughed.
"One day though. You gotta marry me first." She said.
"I can't wait."
"Why would you wanna marry me anyway?" She asked.
"So I can do this anytime I want." I replied, kissing her again.
(A/N. See what I did there? Do ya? Do ya?)
