Langdon and the Mysterious Four

I apologise in advance if this story, title oreven some of the new charactersare similar to another on this site, however, it is purely unintentional. I tried my hardest and wish not to be sent hate mail.
It is the firstone I have posted so I welcome constructive comments, it would help a lot. Thanks.
Chapter 1
Silver light flickered in the side of his eye. He knew some one was there but did not know what to do. He placed the letter on the desk then quickly he ran to the Southern Acropolis under the canopy of trees. He could hear the sound of his heavy breathing and his feet hitting the ground underneath his body, struggling to cope with the strain but from behind he could hear louder, heavier footsteps coming closer. By the time he arrived at the acropolis his legs could not go any further and he collapsed on the first step.
"Stop right there, Hanagan. You will pay the price. You can never, ever defeat the Heelians and tell the secret that we have kept for over 1700 years!" the mysterious man threatened and with that the man produced a gun and shot the man in the heart and brain and walked off with a sigh off relief.
His old tweed coat was blowing fiercely in the gale force winds that blew over the trees in the Tikal national park. He was in Quatamala to lecture students at the University but had received a strange letter delivered to his door at his hotel room two weeks ago.
When he had opened the letter he had been shocked to see in scribbled letters a message-
If you read this I am dead

Puzzled he set to work trying to crack the code but mostly he wondered who had sent him this. It obviously had something to do with something that had to be hidden but what could that be, he wondered. One he figured that the code was in basic substitution he could crack it.
It took him a week and three days to crack the code and it said- asecretishiddeninthetemplefourintikal.
It took him four days to organize a car to take him down to Tikal.
When he finally arrived at the temple he was stuck. He had no idea of where to look and he only had a certain amount of time left before a car came to take him back.
