Hey guys!

This story is based on the movie The Proposal.

So although the main plot is the same, I will alter it to fit my idea :)

Prologue

"Two days ago, something happened… Something that never should've taken place, but it did… We lost someone very dear to our hearts. Everyone will struggle to get over the loss of Tyler Ride, but his twin, who happened to be the last one to see him, alive- would take this the hardest. She was with him in that car, she too got injured, but Tyler just got the worst of it. We gathered here today to hope and pray that Maximum would recover without any serious complications…"

The video stopped.

The realisation that I just missed my brother's funeral hit me. How could this happen? Why?

Ella, my younger sister, and her fiancé, Iggy, recorded the whole event for me.

What am I going to do now? Tyler was basically my other half… we did everything together – as twins should. He was supposed to be there for me, forever. Our lives were just about to get good. I mean, we got accepted in the best musical program any university can offer. What will happen to me? He was my pillar, my crutch, he helped me through all my hard times!

What now?

Chapter 1

Max POV

4 years later

"Please Max, please come visit? It's been more than four years!" Ella was practically begging over the phone. "Mom and Dad really wants you here, we all do. And you are yet to meet your niece and nephew! Granny is turning ninety this weekend! Please just consider this?"

"I am sure Dad is bursting at the seams at the idea of seeing me again, Ella." I sighed, running my hand through my waist length, dirty blonde hair. "I'll see what I can arrange with the boss, alright? I can't promise anything, you know how he is…"

"Oh and bring your boyfriend, Gran can't wait to meet him!" Ella is always doing this: 'Subtly' trying to fish for any clues about my love life – as if I have one… Yes, I am a twenty five year old with no boyfriend. Although my mom always said I'll reel them in with my bright chocolate eyes, I have been rather unsuccessful at reeling anyone in at all.

"I don't have a boyfriend, Ella, for the hundredths time. I have to go now, I'll call again tomorrow. Bye!" Hanging up, I shook my head laughing softly. Hell, I love my little sister and all, but she can be quite on the annoying side.

My boss, Nick Walker, is a tall, mysterious, rude, and ridiculously handsome man with his nearly black hair and onyx eyes. He is a monster of a man, although not incredibly buff – he's more on the lean side – he is incredibly tall, at least a head taller than me. He is not a reasonable man, although sometimes amusing, he is rather rude, and sometimes downright frustrating. He is what you would call a nightmare…

"Pssst! Max! When is he coming in?" Sam, a fellow co-worker, called from the door. "Do I have enough time for a coffee run?"

"Hey you, uhm, Mr Walker just left Meeting Room B, he should be here in ten minutes or so." I smiled at Sam before going back to typing. "I'll send a broadcast when he arrives."

"Thanks, Max! See you around!" Sam left, most likely going to sneak out to meet his girlfriend.

Mr Walker walked in precisely ten minutes later, looking as grumpy as ever. I quickly send a broadcast before standing up and handing him a coffee.

"Morning Max, I just came from a horrible meeting. We have to head towards Mrs Fletcher's office in fifteen or so… we're letting her go." He downed his coffee and rummaged through some papers on his desk.

"May I ask why, sir?" I handed him some new manuscripts before I headed back to my desk.

"Frank got Opera. After two months, I finally got him on it. Of course it was Mrs Fletcher's baby, but if she spent less time cheating on her husband and more time doing her job, Frank might have gotten it the moment I asked her to do it." Mr Walker cleared his throat and started scanning through some of the manuscripts. The day went slow, after Mr Walker's 'talk' with Lisa Fletcher (and after her throwing a clock at my head as if I was the one firing her), the rest of the day was as if any other. When my hour off for lunch began, I thought it was the time to ask if I could have some days off for visiting family.

"Mr Walker?" I cautiously knocked on his door, opening it a slither and peering inside. "May I come in?"

"Yeah, sure. Listen Max, after lunch I have a meeting with Mark. Wait ten minutes, then come in and say I am needed elsewhere. I cannot stand that man." Mr Walker kept scanning the manuscripts.

"Yes, sir, of course… I actually have something personal I need to ask you, sir?" I coughed slightly. He looked up and gestured for me to continue. "Well, sir, my grandmother is turning ninety this weekend, and I was wondering if it would be okay if I use some of my accumulated vacation days to go visit my family this coming week?"

"No." He dismissed me and went back to his manuscripts. Wow, after not a single vacation day in four years, I would've thought he would at least consider letting me go…

"Of course, sir," I sighed softly and closed the door behind me.

A few moments later, he walked out to Mark's office. Gah, the freaking cow.

Fang POV (All this close 'friends' call him that)

"Hey Mark," I said when I sat down on the opposite chair of him. He fixed a stack of papers before greeting me back.

"Fang, you're from Canada, right?" he asked and I nodded. "You've been with us for three years now, right?"

"Yup," I said. What the hell does that matter? "May I ask what the point of these questions is?"

"Fang, your visa is expiring this coming week, and you will be forced to leave us. Lisa Fletcher will be given your job," he said bluntly.

"I just fired her! Why the hell would you give her my job?" I took deep breaths in order to calm myself.

"She's the only one that's experience enough to take the job," he stated. "I refuse to waste time and money in training another employee." Mark is a dick.

"I can't go back to Canada," I started. Well, hating Canada isn't a valid reason, is it? "Well, I can't go back, because…" Shit, I need a reason!

A knock interrupted me. Max. Max!

"Sorry to interrupt, Mr Smith, I have a client waiting for Mr Walker. She has already called thrice and is quite persistent." Max smiled sheepishly. Damn, should I?

"Well, as I was saying Mark, I can't be deported because I am engaged." I grabbed Max's arm and pulled her closer and she let out a squeal of surprise. "To Max over here. Max and I are engaged!"

Max gasped and looked up at me with big eyes. Her shocked gaze quickly turned into an angry glare.

"I'm not sure if I believe you, Fang. She doesn't look that sure," he gestured to Max's clearly unhappy posture. "Prove it."

"Mr Smith, I am…" Max was going to throw me to the dogs! I quickly slammed my lips to hers, effectively stopping her from ruining my career. She immediately started to pull away, but I stopped her by putting my hand behind her head. Eventually, she stopped struggling, she just slumped against me. I pulled away when Mark cleared his throat.

"Okay, not entirely convinced, but pop in at the Citizenship and Immigration Office, today, and if you get cleared there… our problem is solved."

Mark dismissed us and Max silently followed me back into my office. She closed the door and leaned against it, clutching the doorknob.

"Yes, Max, how can I help you?" I sighed, chucking a finished manuscript into a reject basket.

"Sir may I asked what just happened?" Her cheeks were flushed and she looked all confused. "Wait, no. I demand to know what the hell just happened! I do not remember you proposing, or us ever even having a relationship of such sorts!" Max was whisper-shouting. Her eyes flashed angrily and I can swear they turned a shade or two darker.

"I have an expired visa. I need to stay in the country. My whole career depends on it."

"And forcing me into matrimony is the only way to stay?" She glared at me, her hands shaking with anger.

"Yes, what were you going to do anyway? Wait for that 'special' someone?" I laughed sarcastically and started scanning through another manuscript.

"Well, yes! That's what normal people do!" Max huffed frustrated.

"Well, not this time. Just remember to make that meeting, yes? In an hour or so would be great."

"What if I refuse?" Her eyes sparkled with defiance and she crossed her arms.

"If you refuse, Max, I am going to fire you and make sure that you won't get another job anywhere near New York ever again." I stopped reading and rose from my chair. "Look at it this way, Max. If I get deported, Lisa will get my job. If Lisa gets my job, she'll fire you first chance she gets. Either way, if you don't help me, you end up unemployed. However, if you do help me, you get promoted. How's that?" I smirked in her direction when she looked defeated.

"Fine," Max looked crushed. She slammed the door shut behind her and I continued once again with my manuscripts.

Max POV

That son of a bitch! How dare he? Everything was completely fine until he came up with this shit. What the hell was he thinking when he kissed me? My lips felt bruised and violated. This is sexual harassment! I do not get paid enough for this.

The Citizenship and Immigration Offices had a space open in forty minutes, and emailing Mr Walker this, I huffed once again. What the actual hell happened? Should I call him Nick now?

[{(LINE BREAK)}]

Fifteen minutes before our appointment, Mr Walker marched out and practically commanded me to follow him.

"Are we walking, sir?" I asked, looking at my watch. Their offices aren't that far away from ours. If we walked briskly, we'll make it just in time.

"No, they don't tolerate tardiness and nearly always run early." He hailed down a cab and nudged me inside. Oh gosh, I still really can't stand cars.

Really slowly, I closed the door behind me, just in case something happened.

"Max, you're pale." Mr Walker looked annoyed at my slowness. "You okay?"

"I'm fine, sir," I kept taking soft deep breaths of fresh air.

"Fang. Call me Fang, all my friends do…and since we're about to get a lot closer than friends, you should too." Mr Walker ran his hand through his hair and sighed. Fang? How does one get that nickname? Did he bite people when he was younger?

"May I ask why?"

"No."

Fang POV

"Sir, you sure your girlfriend's okay?" the driver asked just before we arrived. Max was humming softly, looking out of the window.

"Pretty sure," I said. I softly nudged Max and when she still didn't respond, I nudged a little harder.

"Huh?" Max asked while she started closing the window.

"We're here," I paid the driver and opened my door. Max all but ran towards the entrance, walked past the elevator and took the stairs two by two.

"Slow down, Max," I grabbed her by her elbow and forced her to walk by my side. Her whole body tensed, but she didn't say a word.

The moment we entered the compartment, the secretary asked us to wait a few minutes.

"Mr Scott Cliff just popped out for coffee. He'll be five minutes tops." Max and I were once again left alone in the waiting area as she went back to her desk.

"This is a bad idea, Mr Walk-er-Fang," Max started tapping her fingers on the table. The repetitive tap-tap of her fingers against the wood started to work on my last nerves.

"Stop it, everything will be fine. Just remember, we love each other deeply and passionately," I took her wrists in my hands and sighed in relief of the silence.

"S-Faang, please let go," Max whimpered softly and tugged at her wrists. "I promise I'll stop, I'm just scared and nervous something goes wrong…"

"Everything will be fine." I released her hands. When 'Mr Scott' came in several minutes later, I was relieved to be able to get out of the uncomfortable chair.

"Mr Walker, Ms Ride. Sorry I am late, I was unaware of this appointment until a few moments ago, I apologise." Scott rambled out, his words sluggish and inaudible. He led us into a smaller office and told us to sit down. Max was clutching my hand tightly and had a nervous smile on her face. "Let's be very clear right now. If this is a faux – which I highly believe it is – Mr Walker here will be removed from the state and Ms Ride, you will get a year in federal prison. Let's begin, shall we?" He smiled almost demonically at us. "What did your parents say when you introduced each other?"

"My parents have passed and I have no other relatives either." This is going to be easy.

"Uh, uhm, we-" Max stuttered and started coughing.

"So you haven't met the parents? Got their approval?" he asked.

"Well, technically not yet, but it's Max's grandmother's birthday this weekend and we're heading down to meet the family then," I nudged Max subtly.

"And where is that?" Mr. Scott asked.

"Alaska. Sitka, Alaska." Max squeezed my hand painfully tight and you could almost see the steam coming out of her ears.

"I'll be keeping a close eye on the two of you, dismissed." He left the room in a hurry, leaving me with a steaming Max.

Outside the building, Max walked on before I could get a cab. "Max, wait!" I called and ran to catch up with her. "What's wrong?"

"Fang, seriously, I know you don't think we would get caught, but what if we do? You go back to Canada, big deal! I go to prison!" Max shouted angrily.

"Max, we're not going to get caught. We'll get married – by that I mean go to court, and then after a few months we'll be happily divorced," I said calmly.

"You know Fang, I've been through a lot of shit in my live, but how does your brain even function? We barely know each other and you just announced we're getting married. You haven't even proposed! Dude, seriously, I might've played along then," Max glared. She stopped walking and glared at me.

"Okay, you want a proposal, I'll give you one," I stated. Max made ago ahead motion. "Now?" I asked and she nodded. Sighing, I went down on my knee. "Max, would you marry me?" I asked as quickly as possible.

"Ask it as if you mean it, Fang," Max smirked.

"Maxine Rid…" I started, but Max cut me off.

"Maximum, my name is Maximum Ride," she shook her head, disapproving. Okay…

"Maximum Ride, would you give me the honour of becoming my wife?" I asked. She rubbed the back of her neck uncomfortably.

"I get to tell my family how I want and whenever I want?" Max asked and I nodded. "Okay," she sighed deeply before walking away.

'What have I got myself into?' I asked myself, standing up and running after her.

Hay all!
