A/N: That's my first Castle fic but I've been in such a Castle mood lately (which includes reading over 450 Castle fics here in a week) that I wanted to try and write one myself. Took me a while until I got a fitting idea but the thought of this one wouldn't let me go so… Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it, have fun reading and please let me know what you think of it (:

A/N2: Everyone who was expecting a Sanctuary FF, I still have some done but I haven't had the muse to type and upload it yet so excuse me, this might still take a while longer but it'll come. As I said, I've been in an absolute Castle mood.

We're partners

Walking back into the precinct Kate Beckett was really angry. They had just arrested the killer of a young woman in a small street where he wanted to hide in one of the apartments that were empty.

Checking the street she was just about to go inside the building when she heard a noise behind her. Before she could react she heard another noise. Castle. Castle had seen the guy hiding behind one of the larger trashcans pointing his gun straight to Beckett. Not even thinking about it twice the writer had jumped on the man and started a fight in order to not get Beckett shot. They were fighting over the gun until Kate stepped in, kicked the gun out of the killer's hand and put handcuffs on him.

The ride back to the 12th had been quiet but once the murderer was under arrest and Kate and Castle were alone it got too much for the Detective.

"Don't ever do that again, Castle! What were you thinking?" She yelled.

"Don't do what again? Having your back?"

"Yes!" Kate yelled so loud that Castle would have bet everyone in the precinct could hear her.

"What was I suppose to do, huh? Letting you get shot while I would do nothing?"

This was too much for Castle. He knew Kate well enough to know she didn't like it when he interfered but he had just saved her life.

"You're not a cop, Castle! You could have been shot or killed or I don't know what!"

"I know that! I know that since I'm following you around! But I'm your partner, Kate and as that I'm having your back." His voice softened towards the end when he noticed her head fall.

Kate didn't look at him anymore. She couldn't. She knew he was right and she knew she had to look at him and say something but the thought of maybe loosing Castle...She would never admit it bothered her.

"I hate you." Kate mumbled so he could barely hear her.

Castle just smiled. He knew exactly what she wanted to say but wouldn't let her pride allow.

He couldn't help himself but gently lift her chin so she would finally look at him again and to his utter surprise she let him.

"You're welcome." He smiled softly not letting go of her eyes.

Kate returned the smile and then she bent forward to place a quick kiss on his cheek.

"Don't ever do that again. I wouldn't want to do the paperwork if you would get shot." She laughed and left Castle alone in the room.

When she closed the door behind her she still had a content smile plastered on her face and Castle's grin just grew wider.

She cared about him. She liked him. And he knew she would never admit it. This wouldn't be easy but he was ready to give it a shot.

THE END
