There's a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark
Axel looked up at the thin blonde before him. He looked worried by something, lip-bitingly nervous and he couldn't quite pin point why.
"Something wrong?" He asked after a short pause. Roxas hesitated, shook his head and sat down, turning wide blue eyes to the horizon. A blind fever rushed through his veins, if only his fingers could hook through them and rip them right out…
See how I'll leave with every piece of you,
Don't underestimate the things that I will do
"Don't hesitate, kid. Got it memorized?" Axel chided in a soft voice, but there was something different to his voice. A touch, a whisper of different. It was enough to unsettle the already nervous boy who bristled in his seat. Packing up with every piece already…?
"I hesitated?"
"You hesitated."
The scars of your love remind me of us,
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
"Hn…Mm…" Roxas murmured before ripping a chunk out of the sea salt ice-cream, swallowing it down in a dramatic fasion. "I guess you're right, but what does it matter if I hesitated?" He gripped the popsicle and looked to the stick like red head.
"I don't know kid, they're your scars to bare and wear." He replied before nipping the edge off the salty dessert in his hands.
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
Baby, I have no story to be told,
"Scars imply that I have stories, and stories mean memories." He responded after a long moment, unsure of his comment even now. Axel looked up at the sky and tapped his fingers to his cheek.
"Memories aren't the only thing to scar." He glanced at him sideways, seeing if the words would stick.
But I've heard one on you and I'm gonna make your head burn,
Could have had it all,
Rolling in the deep,
You had my heart inside of your hands,
Roxas snorted in distaste at Axel's comment. What would he know…? What… would… he know? He had memories, thoughts, feelings, left inside of him, and… Roxas had nothing. Roxas had no memory, no image, no reflection he could count on.
Yet somehow, as crooked as Roxas grew, as mindlessly jealous, his heart was in the palm of Axel's hands.
'Wait… What heart?'
But you played it with a beating,
Throw your soul through every open door,
"Don't act with such contempt, it's not good for you, Roxas." Axel scolded in an almost biting way. He felt his face heat up, that stinging in the back of his throat clawing once again.
"I wasn't acting with contempt," he began, awkwardly grasping for words in a scattered mind. "I was just… How… could…. You…."
Every wall was crumbling down now, every door open, swinging off of hinges in the breeze.
Count your blessings to find what you look for,
You had my heart inside of your hands,
"Just count your damn blessings, Axel." Roxas' tone was rather sharp and the red head leant across toward him.
"Count my what?"
"Your blessings…" His voice was weaker this time, the words swelling in his throat and becoming trapped.
"What blessing is this, Roxas? Unable to love, even when I desire too…" His fingers reached out, caressed a warm cheek. Tears bubbled up and spilt over.
But you played it,
You played it,
"You played it." He whispered.
"Played what?"
"You played it to the god forsaken beat!" Roxas reached out, slapped his hand away.
"Played what, Roxas!"
"This stupid heart!"
You played it,
You played it to the beat.
