Chapter 1 (prologue)
Shane's POV
I have been on the run with my best friend Ace Jacobs for about 2 weeks. We had been betrayed by all of the people that we thought we loved. My girlfriend had cheated on me with my brother Abe. When Abe arrived at Camp Half-Blood nobody payer him the smallest bit of attention. Until they found out that he was the full-fledged brother of me and that he was also a full-fledged god.
Flashback
You would think that he would say that they had no need to be sorry considering the fact that even he didn't know he was a full-fledged god. That's what would happen if he wasn't a complete asshole. He told them that they should be sorry and that they should also be grateful that he wasn't vaporizing them on the spot. The thing is he isn't the only full-fledged god around this camp that hasn't gotten any attention. My best friend Ace and I were also full-fledged gods. When I found out that Abe was my full brother I wasn't very happy. He was acting like he was the best person in the world because he wasn't a demigod but a full-fledged god. At one point nobody was paying any attention to me, they were all groveling at Abe's feet.
I decided that I would go to the archery range that I had made and hidden in the forest. I had made it because there are times when you need to get away from everybody. When I had gotten there I heard people talking and I was surprised because the only people that knew about my archery range were Ace my best friend and my girlfriend Jenna. I walked into the archery range and what I saw broke my heart.
Sitting in the middle of the only true place that was sacred to me anymore was my girlfriend Jenna and my brother Abe. I was very upset that Jenna had brought Abe here because I didn't like him in the slightest bit but that hatred was about to get even worse than it already was. As I was standing there I saw Abe and Jenna start making out. My heart shattered into a billion pieces as I watched the one I thought I loved make out with my own brother.
"JENNA WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING" I yelled enraged that she was kissing my brother. "I just don't love you anymore" she simply replied. "Fine you can have fun with this piece of shit that will probably cheat on you later" I said as I turned and stormed off to my cabin to pack my things. I wasn't going to stand for this while every one of my friends left me and my girlfriend cheated on me with my brother. As I shoved my last couple of belongings into my bag the door opened and I thought it was Abe or Jenna. "What the hell do you want" I exclaimed as I turned around to see my best friend Ace with a couple of bags. "oh, sorry I thought you were Abe or Jenna" I said as I finished packing. "Also why do you have bags" I asked him as I saw that he had 2 bags. "You would be surprised at how fast news travels around here" he said as he set his things down. "That doesn't tell me why you have bags" I said. "You really think that I am going to let you leave on your own" he said as he pulled on a black beanie.
I started looking around for my beanie but I didn't see it anywhere. Then I remembered that when I saw Abe and Jenna making out that he was wearing it. "That son of a bitch" I muttered. "What" Ace replied? "He stole my fucking beanie" I exclaimed. "That's going too far" Ace joked as he pulled out a beanie and tossed it to me. "Thanks" I said and pulled the beanie on.
Ace and I picked up our bags and started to walk out of the cabin and towards the camp border. "You know the funny thing is I won't even miss this place after what just happened" Ace said as we stood at the top of Thalia's tree. "There will be something's that I will miss though" I said. Ace nodded in agreement as we turned and started to walk off. "Hey pricks" I heard a very painfully recognizable voice yell. Ace turned around but I didn't because if I did shit would go down. "Abe just let us leave, you can claim your territory now that we are leaving" Ace said to try and get Abe to screw off but he didn't. "I should've gotten rid of you two asshole a long time ago" I heard Abe yell. "Screw off Abe" Ace yelled because he noticed that my hands had caught on fire. I didn't know I could do that I thought to myself. "This camp abandoned you for me, just like your mortal bitch family abandoned you" I heard Abe yell. That was taking it way too far. I screamed in rage and turned around and hurled a giant ball of fire at Abe. He yelped and jumped out of the way, but not before my fireball singed all of his hair off. "YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT MY MORTAL FAMILY LIKE THAT" I yelled. My mortal family had loved me probably more than my blood family ever would.
I turned around and started to leave but Abe got up and tried to do something again. He got up to yell another insult but an invisible force knocked him on his butt. "I don't know what that was and I don't care, but right now we need to leave" Ace said. I nodded and we grabbed our stuff and left Camp Half-Blood for what we thought would be the last time.
Flashback over
Ace and I were walking through the streets of New York just to try and find some other place to stay than that retched Camp. When we left Abe put the notion on the table that Ace and I should be hunted down and killed because of what we did to him which was only me singing off all of the hair on his body. So as you can imagine having to be on the run for 2 weeks, with people you thought were your friends constantly chasing you and trying to kill you isn't very fun or easy. We also had to fight in a style that kept us from killing Camp Half-Blood bounty hunters when we encountered them.
It had been about a week after we had left when we encountered what was probably the worst group they could have sent after us. Abe, Jenna, Abe's best friend Jerry and Jerry's girlfriend were all in that group. It was like they were trying to rub salt into our wounds when they sent this group of people after to us to try to kill us. Ace and I were eating at a Subway when they walked in. It took them a little bit to realize who we were because we had our beanies on and we had the hoods on our jackets pulled up.
They had ordered their food and had started eating when I got up to get a refill on my drink. When I was over their Abe came over to refill his drink also. When I saw him walking over to me it took all of my willpower not to just rip his head off and punt it to the moon. I had gotten my drink and started to walk back to my table with Ace when Abe stopped me. "Hey what's with the hoods and beanie dude, are you a wanted criminal or something" he said and laughed at his own joke. "Here's an idea you can go fuck yourself" I said and started to walk away. "Hey I remember that voice" he screamed.
He threw his drink on the ground and drew his sword. "Jenna, Jerry, Alexandra it's Shane and Ace" he exclaimed. He swung his sword at me but I sidestepped and he missed and went crashing into the window. Jerry, Jenna and Alexandra were in the process of standing up and drawing their weapons when Abe regained his bearings and stood up. "Get them, they are wanted criminals at Camp Half-Blood" he yelled. They all drew their weapons and they were all normal weapons except Jenna's. She started straining her hands and her nails started to extend but they looked as if they were made out of metal. "What did you do to yourself Jenna" I exclaimed. "I had Hephaestus inject Celestial Bronze into m skeleton so now I am practically invincible and I can use my nails as claws" she said with a chuckle to herself. "Ace toss me my sword will you please" I said.
In on fluid motion Ace sprung out of the table drew his sword and had tossed me mine. Then all hell broke loose as Jenna and Abe lunged at me and Jerry and Alexandra lunged at Ace. I was always a better swordsman then Abe and Jenna but with Jenna's newfound abilities she was very fast and agile and it was hard to keep up with them both. Abe swung his xiphos at me at the same time that Jenna swung her claws at me. I ducked under Abe's sword and deflected Jenna's claws into Abe's arm. Abe growled at came at me again but this team he was prepared. He swung at me and I blocked and disarmed him but in an instant his hands were on fire. "You aren't the only one with tricks anymore Shane" he exclaimed and threw a fireball at me. I raised my arm because I was immune to fire, because of my mom Hestia. When the flames cleared I lowered my arm which was a huge mistake.
When I lowered my arms Abe lunged at me but I was able to push him back when he hit me. As he got pushed back I saw Jenna flip over me and Abe attempted the same strategy again. I thought that he was stupid for trying the same thing again but when I blocked his punch he did a backflip and kicked me in the face. I got spun around right into Jenna. I tried to bring up my sword to block her but she was too fast and she swung her claws at my face giving me three new scars. Now even reacting to the pain I set my entire body on fire. "Abe we need to get out of here" I yelled as I threw a fireball at Jenna. I extinguished my fire and flipped over Abe as he lunged at me, sending him crashing into Jenna. "Ace lets go" I exclaimed as I grabbed our stuff. He knocked out Jerry and Alexandra and we took off out of the door.
We were sprinting down the street as fast as we could considering we knew that they wouldn't leave us alone unless we completely disappeared. After we turned around a corner we instantly hid ourselves from the public. Since we had been forced to constantly make sure that we weren't in danger from the bounty hunters we had come to know an abandoned apartment complex as our home while we were on the run.
"We have got to start being more careful than that" I exclaimed as I turned and punched a wall. "They were able to recognize us because of my voice Ace we can't even stay in New York anymore we have to leave" I exclaimed. "We can't leave New York, this is the safest place for people like us" he tried to reason. "You should know that the monsters aren't what we are worried about, it's when the bounty on us will catch up to us" I told him.
"I don't know where you would like us to go considering the only other place that could even be remotely safe for us is in San Francisco" Ace shouted. "I am not saying that we need to leave now but if this type of thing happens again we will most likely have to leave" I said and sighed as I sat down on our couch.
"Look I get why you are freaking out so much but we can't just get up and leave and slightest smell of trouble" Ace said as he sat down on the other couch. "I guess with what happened today I didn't realize how tired I was" I yawned and then stretched out on my couch. Even though we had been on the run from one of the only safe-havens for people like me doesn't mean that I don't still have nightmares like a half-blood would.
The second I closed my eyes and fell asleep a nightmare enveloped my sleeping brain. I found myself in a place that I had never seen before. The building's walls were pure black and red and there were cages everywhere filled with exotic creatures and people that I had never even seen before. Bu tin the very center of the room there was a throne that had a deathly eerie feeling to it. Although I didn't see who was in the throne I knew that they were working for VERY bad people. As my dream self was looking around I saw a man that looked like he had been in a terrible accident because his face was covered in scars. Scar Face (that's the name I gave him) walked up to this big, bad throne. "I'm sorry master but my sentry's failed their mission" Scar Face said as he kneeled down in front of the character on the throne. "If your sentry's fail me one more time that will be the very last time they will ever disappoint me again, the same goes for you" the throne figure said.
"Yes my lord" Scar Face said as he got up and walked away. The man in the throne got stood up and only then did I realize how massive and colossal he was. This man looked to be about 8 feet tall and he was covered from head to toe in nothing but pure muscle. His eyes were an unearthly pure white, as was his hair. The main was wearing a pure white suit which gave me a bad vibe. "You know I don't appreciate eavesdroppers" the tall man said. The last thing that I was remember was hearing the words "Order before Chaos" before I felt a searing pain in my head.
I woke up in a cold sweat and looked around and noticed that Ace was just lying on the other couch staring off into space. "Dude did you ever fall asleep?" I asked him. "No" he simply replied. "Well I had this dream about a two men who were in what looked to be like an alien prison/throne room looking place and the two men talked about how the sentries had failed and the second man of the two would be killed along with his sentries if they failed again" I stopped to take a breath. "Then the smaller man left and the bigger man stood up and gave me a very good look at him" I exclaimed. "He was big, like 8 feet tall big and was covered in muscle head to toe and he was wearing a pure white suit and his eye's and hair were pure whit e as well" I explained. "Then I heard him say that he doesn't appreciate eavesdroppers and I also heard him say Order before Chaos and then I felt a searing pain in my head and woke up" I finished.
"Well damn that sounds like quit the eventful dream" Ace said as he sat up. "Yes it does doesn't it" I heard a man's voice say. I instantly jumped up and had my sword drawn aiming it at where I heard the voice come from. "Show yourself whoever you are" I exclaimed. "Oh no need for the hostility" the voice said as a man in a pure black suit, that seemed to have the entire galaxy in it. "Well at least I can put a face to the voice now" I said with my sword still aimed straight at his throat. The man reached out and took my sword from me and set on the couch behind him, that Ace was on. Ace also, for some reason set his weapon down. The odd thing is though I didn't resist when he took my sword.
"My name is Chaos, and yes as in the Chaos who created the universe and blah blah, blah" he said waving his hand as he spoke. "I am sorry for the hostility lord Chaos" I apologized as I knelt down and Ace did the same thing. "Oh, there is no need for formalities" Chaos said as he waved his hand. Ace and I stood up and I questioned him "What are you doing here and what do you want". "I came here because I believe that the two of you can end up being the two of the most powerful beings in the galaxy if you come with me and train under my name" Chaos explained.
"So your telling me that you came all this way just to recruit two normal and average demigods?" I asked. "Ah but you mustn't forget that both of you aren't just mere demigods" Chaos said as he shook his finer in a tsk tsk movement. "Ok, but still we aren't special" I replied. "No matter what you think I came here to recruit the two of you to form an assassin group among my army" Chaos told me. "What do you think, Ace" I asked my best friend. "Well I mean we don't really have that much here that we care about anymore, so I say what the hell" Ace replied. Ace and I looked at Chaos "We're in" we said in perfect unison.
