Gil Grissom woke to find he had the bed all to himself. He rolled onto his back and listened for the shower thinking Sara must have, yet again, woken before their alarm. He rubbed his eyes and got up, pulling on a t-shirt to go with the boxers he had worn for bed and made his way downstairs. He was shocked not only to see his wife curled up on the sofa but also to see she was crying, he rushed over and knelt in front of her.
"What's wrong? Is it the baby?" He asked, his hand brushing her hair out of her face before sliding over her swollen abdomen. Sara threw her arms around his neck and sobbed. Gil moved her over on the couch so he had room to lie with her, he wrapped one arm around her body to gently run up and down her back whilst his other hand held her head against his chest.
"I'm scared." She sniffled. Grissom had a feeling thats what this was about, he had been waiting for it. Sara was now nine months pregnant and two days away from her due date. She was constantly uncomfortable and had no idea what to expect. The lab was short staffed and it had proved impossible for Gil to get the time off work to be with her so he was constantly waiting for the phone call and therefore only working cases in a ten-mile radius of the lab. Sara had become cranky and irritable but at the same time tearful and clingy and Gil knew her hormones must be all over the place.
"Your body was designed to do this and.." Gil was cut off before he could finish.
"It'llhurtlikehell!" She panicked.
"You can get pain relief.." he was once again cut off.
"I looked it up online and there was this woman who.." It was her turn to be cut off.
"Sara, what have I told you about looking up labour related horror stories online. It does nothing but scare you!" He pulled her closer to him until there was only the bump separating them and used his thumb to wipe her tears from her cheeks. "Would you like me to make you some breakfast?"
"Yea, but don't go yet. I haven't been this comfortable in about a month!" She sighed regaining her composure. They both fell asleep tangled on the sofa. But the baby had other ideas.
