This is just a little one-shot type thing I wrote, inspired by a poem I read in a book that really grabbed my attention, so that is why it is more like a poem than a story. Hope it's not too far out there!
The summer before he started Grade 12 he met a girl
And her name was Lois Lane
And she drove him crazy
Because she was unlike any girl he had ever met
And she teased him relentlessly
And she was bossy
And sometimes he wished she would just leave
But mostly he wished that she wouldn't
Because this girl was different
And she made him feel alive
And he actually sort of liked having her around
And when he looked at her he couldn't help but notice how her eyes sparkled
Or how her hair always smelled like cherries
And every now and then he wondered what it would be like to kiss her
But he pushed that thought to the back of his mind
Because, really, they weren't even friends
And he was pretty sure she would kill him if he ever tried
The summer after he graduated from high school he lost touch with some people
But not Lois Lane
Because somewhere along the line she had become his best friend
And she understood him like no one else could
Because he could always be himself around her
And she made him feel accepted
And sometimes he thought that maybe he could like her as more than a friend
But he didn't explore the thought any further
Because their friendship was important to him
And he didn't want to complicate things
So he ignored the fluttering feeling he got in his stomach when he talked to her
And he tried not to notice how her eyes still sparkled when she talked to him
And he still wondered what it would be like to kiss her
But he was careful to keep her in the dark about all of it
Because he was pretty sure she would think he was crazy
And either way they were just friends
And surely friends did not think about kissing each other
The summer before he started working at the Daily Planet he fell in love with a girl
And her name was Lois Lane
And she drove him crazy
But he loved every minute of it
And he wished she would notice the way he looked at her
Because she was all he thought about
And he couldn't breathe when he was near her
And he wanted more than anything to tell her how he felt
But he didn't want to scare her away
So he kept his thoughts to himself
And he tried not to get lost in her beautiful eyes when she looked at him
Or kiss her when she was in the middle of one of her famous Lois Lane rants
But it was getting harder and harder
And he wasn't sure how much longer he could take it
Because he was in deep
And it was only a matter of time before he dove the rest of the way in
The day after Lois and Oliver almost got killed he decided to tell her how he felt
And he knew it had been a long time coming
And, really, he was surprised he had taken so long to get to this point
Because it had been a year
And he was still hopelessly in love with Lois Lane
And up until now he had been happy to hide his feelings
But he was done hiding now
Because almost losing Lois had been more horrible than he could have ever imagined
And he didn't want to waste another second of his time with her
So he walked into the bullpen that morning with a purpose
And when she saw him walk in she looked up at him and smiled
And he saw the same sparkle in her eyes that he had seen so many years before
And suddenly he knew exactly what he needed to do
So he strode over to her with confidence and pulled her towards him
And he kissed her like it was the last thing he would ever do
He kissed her until his mind went foggy and they were both gasping for air
And everyone in the bullpen just smiled and rolled their eyes
Because, really, it was about time
