It wasn't the weeping of the victim that got to him or the bruises on her cheek. He was mostly hardened to that after all these years.

He barely raised an eyebrow over the poodle skirt, pony tail and saddle shoes. Who knew what kids wore these days?

No, what was bothering Munch about SVU's current victim was that she was green and glowing and he could see the fire hydrant right through her.

Talk about an old case.

Munch sighed and turned to his mildly stunned partner. "Let me use your phone."

"Why" said Fin, "Who you gonna call?

The knit hat itched horribly, and Munch was convinced that it wasn't just because it was wool.

The shabby coat pulled around his shoulders was tissue thin, the shoes were worse, and he really didn't want to think about the pants.

John Munch rarely played stalking goat, but SVU's latest raping murdering bastard preferred his victims to be male white homeless men in their early 60's.

"I have never hated anyone the way I hate you all right now," he intoned into his hidden mic.

"Ah, cheer up, John," drawled his partner's voice through his earpiece. "You only gots to sleep in the alley 'til dawn. I once was under so deep I was in a dumpster for a week."

"Yeah, yeah," muttered Munch. He didn't want to hear Fin's tales of undercover glories past right now.

For a man of such burly build and distinctive facial hair, the ex-narcotics cop took to cover with surprising ease. Munch once mentioned this to Fin, who gave him a look of fond annoyance and said something about it being a black thing.

Now, playing a homeless man amongst hundreds more, all invisible, Munch understood just what Fin meant. How many people had walked by him tonight and ignored the tall gaunt man sleeping on the grating? What large groups of humanity had he himself been ignoring?

"Heads up, guys," hissed Stabler over the wire. "Suspect's moving."

Munch checked his gun through his rags and made a note to angst about all this later.

Munch was late, so Fin had to wait in his partner's book-filled apartment on his old leather sofa.

"Old man, you need to get your own car," growled Fin. He moved a stack of magazines over before they fell off the coffee table. "You also need to get a new couch. I think a spring just bit my ass."

"Hey, that's a classic. That sofa's been with me longer than any woman."

"What, none of your exs wanted the damn thing?"

"Nope, or me either," Munch said as he stepped into the bathroom to adjust his tie.

Fin wisely said nothing.
