When You Wish Upon A Star

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

From, When You Wish Upon A Star, from Disney's Pinocchio

"Arty. Wake up." The voice was distance, from a faraway placebetween Artemis's dreams andhisblurry conscious. He blinked away the sleep and sting in his to see his mother, sitting like a willowyangel on the side of his bed.

"Look," she whispered, pointing out the window. Artemis looked and saw a star shooting across the sky, making a subtle scar across the blanket of darkness.

"Are you going to make a wish," his mother asked, stroking her son's head. Artemis suppressed a scowl. He knew as well as anyone that shooting stars were merely asteroids conveying their way across the galaxy, caughtup inEarth's atmosphere. Still, he couldn't help but wonder what he would wish for, if indeed, the shooting star granted him whatever his heart desired.

What would he wish for?

Power?

A long time ago, yes. Once upon a time he would wish nothing more then to hold the world in his hands, to control every being. It was hard for him to believe that he would be that selfish. 'Gold is Power' was no more. He found power it places he never think to look. His heart.

Friendship?

No, he had the greatest friends in the world. Butler, always there to protect him, to guide him in his ways. Holly, spunky and a little cocky a once rival now a dear friend. Mulch, the kleptomaniac dwarf who never ceased to amaze him. Yes, Artemis had friends. Odd friends, not even the same species as he, but they were the best anyone could ask for.

World peace?

Artemis nearly laughed. Who was he, Miss Ireland? The Heir shuttered. Best not go there.

Strength?

Yes, perhaps Artemis needed to work on his muscles, but that really wasn't the strength that mattered him. He had a strong heart, which was now in the right place, and spirit that was unbreakable. His mind was the most powerful tool he had of course, and it was, in most cases a muscle. Besides, he could always work out.

Family?

He looked at his mother. She had been on the verge of complete madness barely two years ago. Now, here she was, healthy and looking younger then ever, smiling at her son like he was the only thing on earth that mattered to her. His father walked in at sat next to her, gently kissing her forehead. Angeline leaned her head on his shoulder, looking out the window.

What is there to wish for?

Artemis thought a long time, looking at his parents. Suddenly a thought occurred to him. The young boy smiled.Of course, it was so obvious.Feeling juvenile in everyway, Artemis closed his eyes and made a wish, leaning back into the comfort of his feathered pillows. From somewhere on the surface of his dreams he heard his parents bid him goodnight, and leave.

How silly, he thought, it's just a star…

Should I continue? Yes? No? Maybe? Probably? It's your decision. I bid you all, a good night.
