The Two of Them
Seventh year was hard and grueling, but had a peaceful quality to it. A balance. A constant.
It was the quiet before the storm. The serenity of it, just before they were all thrust so unwillingly into the battle none of them were ready for. That none would survive.
Things came together though.
As strange as that sounds.
Almost like magic… probably like magic… ironically like magic… but just as anyone would have thought it to be.
Exams flew by quickly… as if everything, all the memories that had been so carefully stored away were now distant and set deep in his subconscious.
Everything went like so. All as planned… sort of.
She said yes, surprisingly… or maybe not.
It never stopped though. It would never stop. Could never.
They wouldn't let it.
The two of them.
Breathing was always so much harder. It could have been because it wasn't school anymore. There was no barrier or wards or anything blocking it out anymore.
Even more so when the Headmaster came with the news.
Then everything spiraled.
Everything is always worse when spiraled. Almost a kalidascope of sorts that you got you head stuck in, and everything just keeps spinning and warphing until nothing's the same anymore... except for one.
And when the light came… the light that was the same piercing green as her eyes were… the last words that died on his lips… weren't hers.
But as it always was, Lily was his.
He was Sirius's.
The part of his heart that was for him was always so much bigger than hers ever was.
