A/N: Prompt from my final fantasy comm on LJ. I've been writing too many FFXII fics and drabbles lately (not there's anything wrong with that, it's kind of unappreciated IMO, but then, so are most of the FF series ): ), so I decided to take a small break, lol. Actually, when I came up this prompt, it made me think of Shalua for some reason. So I gave in to the plot bunny and wrote this. Plus, there really needs to be more Shalua/Yuffie love. =3
Prompt: Rainy day
Pairing: Shalua/Yuffie
Warning: Femslash, mild angst
Word count: 300

Nothing Worth Living For
Shalua stared out the window as the rain splattered and smeared the landscape beyond the glass. Her body, the parts that were still really hers, ached today. The humidity of the weather was abusive to her torn and battered body. If it wasn't for her deep desire to find her sister, she would have laid down and died a long time ago. There was nothing worth the constant pain she lived in then her guilt for not having been stronger to stop them from taking Shelke away. On rainy days, her and Shelke would curl up by a fire and make s'mores and tell corny childish jokes - she missed those days long ago.
"Excuse me, Shalua?" A voice behind her called.
Turning, Shalua was surprised to see Yuffie at the doorway to her office. The younger woman smiled playfully at her.
"I was wondering if you'd like to join me? I was going to sit by the fireplace in my room and roast some s'mores." Her face was all childish enthusiasm as she thought of the s'mores. Yuffie clapped her hands eagerly as another thought came to her. "Oh! And we can tell each other corny jokes or ghost stories or personal secrets or something!"
It was as if the Wutarian had read her mind and the tears that rolled down Shalua's shocked face, made Yuffie pause in her enthusiasm in concern. "I'm sorry! Did I say something wrong?"
Shaking her head and chuckling softly, the older woman removed her glasses and wiped her eyes. "No. Not at all." Replacing her glasses, she moved over to where Yuffie stood. With her good hand, she grabbed one of Yuffie's hands and pressed her lips against it. "That sounds like a perfect idea."
Maybe there was still something worth living for.
