The door opened quietly, and closed. The man who walked out of the Queen's room looked around, and when he saw that there was no one in the hallway, he started to walk away.
No sooner than that, the door opened again, and a young woman stepped out. She followed the man as he walked, and when he discovered her following, he stopped, and turned to her.
"Majesty… please return to your room. It is late, you are required in the city tomorrow."
"I will not." Her reply was cold, sharp. He almost flinched at her tone. Almost. "Where are you going?"
The man rolled his shoulders, and pointed out the window. The young woman looked. "The Aerodrome? Whatever-" She stopped herself there. She knew why he was going to the Aerodrome. "You're going to Archades!" She spat, looking at him once again. "You would leave Rabanastre in the dead of the night?"
"Majesty, it is no longer a matter of choice."
The young Queen's frame shook. Her face displayed anger and sadness at the same time. Staring out the window again, she held her breath. Maybe she could get him to change his mind.
"Won't you stay?" She pleaded, turning to him. "For me?" Tears filled her eyes quickly; this was not what was supposed to happen.
"I can't. Archades' Emperor requires a bodyguard."
She closed her eyes, hoping in the back of her mind that this was just a nightmare. She felt like she would stop breathing altogether.
"…" What could she say? His mind was made up on the matter. "I love you."
The man sighed. He walked up to the Queen, and took her hands in his. He placed a quick kiss to her cheek, before stepping back from her again. "I know, Ashe."
"Don't do this!" She exclaimed, letting the tears fall freely. She wasn't afraid to show her weakness to him. After all, it was okay to cry. "Don't go! Please, Basch, don't do it…"
He shook his head sadly, and turned away. "Goodbye… Ashelia."
With a defeated sigh, she dropped to her knees, and sobbed. What else was there to do? She could not change his mind.
