Joining the Lost
Disclaimer: I do not own Sweeney Todd or the associated characters.
The day was almost over, and the skies had been nothing but gray. Gray and sad, just like Mrs. Lovett. There was rain and the familiar noise of creaking floorboards from Mr. Todd's pacing. Why he was pacing again, she had no idea. The judge was dead.
Life now, after today, would be painful and boring. She would cry often, she knew it. Her only company now would be Sweeney, who hardly spoke back, unless to demand something or tell her to leave. It was extremely unlikely they'd have a real conversation with two sides.
Nellie couldn't help but cry. She had a glass in one hand, her arms folded over a table, where she rested her head between them. The pacing upstairs stopped but she wasn't paying attention. Only wallowing in her sorrow.
She was crying because today was the day Toby had died. It was a strange, rare accident that killed him.
She heard the familiar stomp of Mr. Todd's boots coming down the steps. Nellie lifted her head up and sighed, waiting for the shop door to open. He was probably angry, moody like a teenage girl. As he walked in, he spotted her and grunted.
"This needs to stop."
"Why, Mr. Todd? Am I ruining your brooding up there?"
He said nothing, but stood and looked at her for a second.
"I know how it feels." He whispered.
"What?"
"I know how it feels to loose someone..."
Nellie stared at him.
"Thank you."
He sat down across the table from her and poured himself some gin. She closed her eyes as she felt his gaze burning into her.
"I've lost so many."
"Many what, Mrs. Lovett?"
"People. Babies. All of them. Toby was a son to me, Mr. Todd. Now I lost all of them."
He said nothing.
"I guess you could say he's joining the lost, Mr. T."
Author's Note: Thanks so much for reading! Hope you enjoyed. Please leave a review, it really helps, and they are much appreciated. More reviews equal more stories! (By the way, if anyone who reads is wondering, Lucy is actually dead in all of my stories. She succeeded in taking the arsenic.)
