Hitman: Contracts
Chapter 1:
The confessional was smaller than he had remembered as he sat down, staring only at the red velvet curtain he'd came through seconds earlier. A faint knock on the woodwork and almost immediately the curtain on the other side was pulled aside, revealing a female figure through the gratin.
"47" said Dianna softly, "We cross paths again". Dianna was Agent 47's controller sort of speak, assigning him with new contracts, wiring money to his accounts after a successful hit, providing him with the weapons he needed for the job as well as any other useful information regarding his targets. Never once had Agent 47 seen her face.
"Indeed" replied Agent 47, his voice still as dull and blunt as when the last time they had met, "I'm here about an old contract. Perhaps you can help".
"I'll provide whatever information I know for our best agent" replied Dianna, "This is the contract in question I believe" and a thin, plain brown envelope was slid through the gap at the bottom of the gratin, without hesitation Agent 47 opened it up and examined the briefing and added notes, what caught his attention however was what it said at the top in bold red print "EXPIRED".
"Expired?" he questioned.
"Yes" replied Dianna, "There was a fixed time limit on this particular contract, as ordered by the client himself. Unfortunately the agent we sent in was exposed by a double agent and killed, the target escaping".
"Why wasn't I made aware of this?" asked 47, growing aggravated, "I could have assisted".
"Any contract that's expired is then disposed of; its contents burnt and for security purposes and to keep ourselves unnoticed it's never spoken of again 47" replied Dianna, being stern.
"I want this contract rectified".
"Not possible".
"Make it possible".
"It's out of my hands and more importantly out of the equation" stated Dianna, "Why are you so keen on this 47, you've never taken any interest on any other contract besides your own. That's how it's always been".
"Because" started 47, "The target is one of my brothers. The only one who escaped the institution long before I'd arrived".
For the first time in her career Dianna was speechless at how she was oblivious to this, not having noticed it or picked up on it in the slightest.
"I'll see what I can do" she said finally, "In the meantime take care of this, I'll update you later" she then exited the confessional, Agent 47 listened to her footsteps echoing off the marble floors into the distance before he, too, exited and made off into the afternoon sunlight.
