Dream
by: MiyukiGainsborough
"Major Hundren, what's your dream?" the black haired alchemist asked the younger woman as she kicked back in his chair.
"My-dream?" she asked in a quite voice, her eyes looking over the room only to see all eyes staring at her. Maria had simply come to Colonel Mustang's office to give him a finished report but was given an order to sit down with everyone and take a break.
'You work too hard, Hundren,' he had told her. She would have argued but he was right. Long nights or early mornings. Twenty plus hours working on assignments not to mention the Elric brother had asked her to try and find some information on the Philospher's Stone. Not saying a word, she had sat down and joined in on the group's random conversation.
It really was random. It went from dicussing Black Hayate's habits to Havoc's love life to 'what is your dream?' She had listened in silence but never expected anyone to ask her what her dream was. It wasn't anything like Mustang's dream to become Furher but it matched with who she was.
"My dream...," she began, eyes looking to her hands back to the Colonel, "Well, it's to become a great doctor and alchemist to help my people." A small smile had come to her lips as she thought about her people and how much she could do for them if she mastered her skills. Though the smile faded as she quickly thought about what would happen if she tried to go back to them. She would be considered a traitor for using alchemy and just exiled from them. No one would accept her but...she had to try.
"Your people, eh?" Falman spoke up, pushing Maria out of her thoughts.
"Oh! Yeah, there's so much going on in Reole and I know I can keep my people safe from people like that Cornello guy," she quickly replied. She bit the bottom of her lip as she watched Falman nodded and ask Riza a question, moving the conversation on to something else.
'That was close,' she thought in her head. Only the Furher and the few people he lets near her file, knew that Maria was actually half Ishbaln. The only reason she had been allowed in the military was not only her alchemic skill but her other side of blood. Her mother had been a highly respected Brigadier General before her death from a mysterious illness. After the death of both her parents, Maria made it her goal to find a cure for the strange disease that killed her mother and help her people become accepted in their world. One day, everything would be fixed.
