If there was one thing Eric Theodore Cartman truly didn't understand; it was Leopold 'Butters' Stotch.
No matter how many times he pondered the subject he could never understand why Butters put up with him, and it left him baffled and confused.
When they were younger and Kyle and the guys went too far with their insults, Butters was always there to give him a beaming smile that made his stomache twist into uncomfortabley pleasent knots.
Butters never ever complained when Eric dragged him into another one of his 'adventures' , no matter how crazy they were.
Butters didn't mind that nearly every night Eric would climb through his window seeking refuge for the night because his mother had 'visitors' over.
Instead he would just scoot over and make enough room in his bed for the other boy to climb in without any complaint.
Whenever life just got too much to handle for Eric, Butters would always be the one willing to listen to everything and be a shoulder to cry on, for as long as it took for the other to feel better.
When everyone gave up on him – including his own mother, Butters was there to offer him his unconditional friendship.
In time the constant insults of 'Fatass' become too much and Eric started struggling with his weight, Butters was there everyday reminding him of how beautiful he was – inside and out.
The day Kenny died for real, Eric was completely shattered, Kenny was supposed to be his best friend. Kyle and Stan said he was just faking, and that there was no way in hell Cartman could actually be upset.
Butters was there ; tissue in hand , to wipe away Erics tears.
When everyone else saw Cartman, Butters saw Eric.
Butters was the only one who didn't make jokes about him, the only one who wasn't a complete asshole to him, the only one who believed in him.
Leopold 'Butters' Stotch was the only one Eric Theodore Cartman loved.
