"Bamm," the sound exploded in Jack's ear as he rounded the corner. He knew he was going to have to find a hiding place soon or else he'd be dead meat. He spied a stack of crates in the corner of the alley. He dashed behind them just as the shooter turned into the alley. The man gingerly walked down the alley looking to each side of him. As soon as he had his back turned to Jack he jumped out and placed the gun into the man's rib cage. The other man laughed.
"Why do you always have to win Jack?" said the man.
"I don't know maybe you should start remembering to look behind things as well as in front, Tony" he stated good naturedly.
"I see you won again Jack," stated an amused Ryan Chappell.
Special Agent Jack Bauer and Tony Almedia had just finished a training exercise at the recreational base outside of Vancouver, Canada. The men had just finished a long hard case and been ordered to the base for a week off. The men however did at least one training exercise everyday.
"Now you two go have fun before I order you to." Ryan said smiling.
Jack sighed inwardly. His boos didn't seem to get it, Jack loved his job and had fun doing it. It was also the only thing that kept his mind off of Kim and Teri. His daughter and wife had died one year ago in a car accident. Even though it had happened along time ago he couldn't get over being home alone in a quiet house, so he stayed at work as long as possible. I mean he was on first name terms with the night janitors. Reluctantly he punched Tony lightly in the shoulder and started back up the alley. He had just realized he was starving. He hadn't eaten since seven o'clock that morning and it was one o'clock.
"You coming Tony," he shouted over his shoulder.
"Yeah I'll be right there," Tony yelled back.
Jack stopped and sighed. Tony was probably updating their boss on Jack's condition. He had suffered a severe concussion and three gunshot wounds during their last case. Jack never understood why people were always worried about him, I mean he's a big boy now and he can take care of himself.
"Sorry," panted Tony as he caught up with Jack.
"No problem," Jack lied.
"Where do you want to eat," asked Tony.
"How about that one chili place on Mount Street," said Jack. He had passed the place many times but had never eaten there.
"Sounds good to me," Tony sighed, "It sure is a nice day isn't it?"
"Yeah but its getting a little hot," replied Jack. It was about seventy-six degrees outside with big fluffy white clouds floating lazily above them in the light blue sky. Jack glanced at Tony and turned away grinning. Tony had rich dark brown hair that fell past his ear and his muscular arms strained against his shirt. He was just slightly taller than Jack but weighed a little less. Tony was always good with the ladies but after his last break up he tried to neglect his appearance so the women weren't attracted to him. But all he had accomplished was to look like a rock star. Jack laughed out loud as two women saw Tony and giggled.
"What," Tony said surprised.
"I don't think that your neglecting your appearance has changed the ladies idea of you," Jack replied smiling.
"At least I tried," Tony let out an exasperated sigh. Finally they reached the restaurant and stepped through the door. Jack eyed a pretty girl sitting in the corner booth but before he could even take another breath a shot rang out from behind him and the young woman collapsed onto the table.
