I own nothing.
I'm going to prove them wrong. Katherine thought as she picked up a piece of metal.
Katherine was twenty-five now, ten years after she and her brother ran off from the fire that killed their father. But Thomas had married a girl four years ago and Katherine hadn't heard from him since. She had a husband and children herself but sometimes she still preferred to spend time in her workshop than with her family.
She'd never been good with organic life forms.* Animals never particularly liked her and any plant she tried to grow died. If her husband, Michael, hadn't been around their children probably wouldn't have made it either. Katherine loved her family but machines would always be her strong point.
"Mother, is it done yet?" her oldest child, eight-year-old Gideon asked. He loved helping Katherine with her projects. The project they were working on at the moment was one Katherine had been working on for nine years. Something she'd always promised she would make.
"Not yet, son," she told him "but put this last piece on." she handed her son the piece of metal.
"What will we do when it's finished?" asked the curious little boy.
"I don't know. Perhaps one day we can get it to fly."
"It would be fun to fly. People should have wings."
Katherine thought about that. Technology like that was centuries away but maybe one of her decedents could invent a way for humans to fly.
"That's a creative idea." Katherine said, smiling him "Now, that last scale goes right next to its right foot. You know how to attach it."
Gideon attached the scale as his mother had taught him before and stood back.
"And that, Gideon, is what a dragon looks like." Katherine said.
And they said dragons didn't exist…
Done! Exactly three hundred words! Okay, honestly, who knew it was a dragon? Anyone?
I don't know if that was Katherine's husband's name or if she named her son – if she had a son – after her father and I don't know any of this for sure. I was just reading one of the stories (I don't remember which) where they read Vespers Rising and I saw Katherine say that one day she'd make a dragon and I thought "Maybe she DID make a dragon!" Also I thought that maybe the guys who made the airplane (I know I should know who they are but I don't…) were Ekats and the idea of flying started with Katherine and her son. I also don't know if Katherine really was "not good with organic life forms" she just sort of reminds me of Hephaestus from The Lost Hero so I put that…
Translation: almost none of this is based on facts.
*The Lost Hero reference!
Now, before I get people after me about grammar I'm just going to say that I'm sorry that I don't really understand grammar crap.
I think I'll put this after all my stories :/
