shot through the heart

Characters: Lust, Jean Havoc, Rebecca Catalina, Pride

Summary: Getting into his mind and heart was difficult because there was already someone else.

She had never failed before and she had believed that this would be easier than any other mission Father had given her so far. Seducing Jean Havoc into telling her all the little secrets Roy Mustang had should have been the easiest job she would ever do but no matter how much she flirted and gushed over every little battle scar of his, he did not tell her anything. She even considered whether Envy had tricked her and that her target was gay – because there was no other explanation why she was unable to get to him.

She even considered whether she should ask Envy to take over for her because hell, she was created to be desired by any men … and yet, Jean Havoc seemed to be strangely level-headed even with her around … nearly as if she did not influence him as much as most men.

And then, she saw the picture and everything made sense to her.

She had not the usual effect onto him because there was someone else and this was the only cure to her spell. She hated the other woman with burning passion. How could this Little Miss Doe-eye dare to interfere with her mission? This little bitch was the reason why she was about to fail a mission she could not afford to fail.

Then again, she could hope that her target would let go of his far-away-ex soon. It was not like that puny human woman would be able to uphold her own spell for a long time – at least if her target was not seriously in love with the brunette.

No matter what, Rebecca Catalina had proved to be a nuisance and if Lust would not have been too proud to admit this, she would have found a reason why the lieutenant had to go, had to be killed. That woman with her innocently-mischievously smile and her sweet, angelic gaze was to blame for Lust's current anger – and the reason for the destruction the homunculus had wrecked in their hideout – much to Pride's amusement and she was not there for his entertainment.

"Sweetie, I am going to kill you if you don't get out of his head soon," Lust muttered under her breath as she marched through the sewers to the research institute.

"Isn't that pathetic, Lust?" Pride's voice asked hollowly.

"Leave me alone," she snapped at him before shadows wrapped themselves around her neck.

"Ah-ah," her older brother said amused. "You should remember that you got a job to do. Father does not appreciate the lack of information you deliver lately. You seem to be losing your touch … and you know how unforgiving he is when it comes to failure, Lust."

Her fists clenched at her sides. "I can sell the smile of an angel and the appeal of a demon," she said darkly. "I can promise heaven and put men through hell – but with my nature comes my limit. You are weak against the light, Pride. I am weak against love. I can't slip into a mind taken by another."

"Pathetic, don't you agree?" he chuckled. "Then, make him fall in love with you."

"This is a little bit difficult because my charms don't work all that well on him. He's silent."

"Because of that little lieutenant from the east?"

"Yes," she growled. "But … I will fix it. Killing her wouldn't help us at all … just more unwanted attention … and Envy got sloppy lately. I will deal with this issue all alone."

"As you wish…" he said as the shadows let go of her. "But … be careful. Father is getting impatient."

"I know."
