He tried to hold her hand, but she turned away from him before he could do so. Empty words and broken silence surrounded them both, as she tried to hide her cracked sobs, and he, the quaver in his voice.
"Perhaps… just one more time, one last chance?"
Desperation ran thick in his husky voice, tears threatening to spill down his pale cheeks. No sound escaped her lips.
Moments passed before she faced him again, her face struck with salty tears.
"It just won't work. …We can still be friends, right?"
He swallowed, hard.
"Yes, of course. ...Like always."
