Prompt: Fate attempts to make dinner for Nanoha, burns kitchen down. One-shot.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
"Keh-! Bardiche, can you turn that off please?" Fate shouted over the loud smoke alarm.
"Yes, sir." BEEP BEEP BE-
Fate sighed as she deposited a mass of black char into the waste bin.
"That is the sixth pan you have burned through, sir. Are you sure you do not require assistance?" Bardiche asked from his position by the window sill, safely away from the kitchen appliances.
The blonde slumped down the wall undernearth her intelligent device. "Dame deshou, boku ha?"
"You are trying your best, sir. Keep going. You have a 60 percent chance of succeeding next time."
"You're right, Bardiche. Yoshi, 60 percent is good enough for me. Let's try again!"
With renewed energy, Fate got up and retied her apron at the stove.
"Maybe I should try something else… Arf always handled cooking stake." She turned around to face the kitchen island to inspect the left over ingredients. "Does Nanoha even eat stake? I should've asked, mou…"
"Sir, your apron strings are on fire."
"Eh? Eh?" Fate spun around in circles trying to see where she caught fire.
There was a jingling of keys before a soft voice floated into the kitchen from the foyer, unbeknownst to the blonde who somehow managed to remove the flaming apron.
"Feito-chan, tadaima! Thanks for looking after the house while I was at— Feito-chan!"
The two quickly stamped out the growing fire.
"Gaaaaaaaaaah, hazukashi!" Fate covered her face in embarrassment.
"Never mind that, any injuries?" Nanoha's nimble hands flitted across Fate's shoulders, down her arms to check for burns. She walked around to inspect the blonde's back and covered her mouth in shock.
"Feito-chan, your back is all red. Does it hurt?" She extended her hand but hesitated, "Oh gosh, let me go get the first aid kit."
"Wait, Nanoha." The blonde grabbed her arm, "I'm sorry for the mess, and for almost burning down your kitchen."
The brunette looked around and was shocked at the disarray she hadn't noticed before. "O-oh. Well, as long as you're okay, it doesn't matter about the kitchen."
She smiled softly and squeezed Fate's hand.
"Y'know, Feito-chan. You were always a better baker than a cook." Nanoha smiled, her eyes shining with adoration for the sheepish blonde.
"Next time you can leave the cooking to me, and maybe you can be in charge with what dessert we'll have?"
Fate looked up into Nanoha's warm eyes and nodded, lip caught between her teeth. "I do have something in mind for later…"
