They're the only two survivors of the team of youth.
Realistically, looking back, it wasn't that bad. Sure, it was a lot of sweat, a lot of blood, and, surprisingly, a lot of tears, but it was bound to happen eventually and, in actuality, it wasn't a bad way to grow up. When you had a rough night, of which there were many, everyone was there for you, and when sunrise finally came, you were greeted by a wave of green spandex and kunai, just like always. They knew when to drop it, and it went without saying what they didn't discuss.
Neji rather developed a liking for Tenten. She wasn't overly pretty, or overly smart; he liked that the most. While he'd been all but bred to perfect, she was just average. A good shinobi, and a good friend… But nothing great. Together, however, together they would make something great from what was left of their lives.
