Monster World: Grand Quest
Darkness. That's all there was. Just darkness. Then came the gods.
Legends say that at the beginning of time, Obelisk, Slifer, and the dragon of Ra pulled their world out of nothing. It was called Gwyven, and it was paradise. It was a realm where great wizards were common, and where monsters lived in peace with their human friends. It was the perfect utopia.
Was.
For with power comes corruption.
It began when a wizard named Shadu created a millennium item, a device that could amplify a casters power by huge levels. He shared his knowledge with the world, and soon, everyone was creating one. They used them for everything, and soon began to dominate the very monsters they had befriended. They used them to kill each other and fight wars.
Yet the greatest of these abominations also came from the man that created the items. Shadu decided to create a monster that was stronger than the gods. He created Exodia.
Exodia was a creature of endless power. Nothing could stand against Shadu while the beast was in his power. But he was a fool to believe that something so powerful would stay in his control. Exodia broke free.
Without anyone to control it, Exodia began to systematically destroy the human race. The proud humans called to their monsters to help them, but none could stand against this king among demons. Even the three great gods themselves were powerless. Until, that is, Shadu cast a spell known as the Destiny Board, and locked Exodia away in a place that no human or monster could enter.
Although Exodia was imprisoned, the damage was done. Gwyven was a shattered place. Now, one thousand years later, the utopia has still not returned. It had transformed into a feudal land, and out of the hundreds of Millennium Items created, only two are known to exist. One is held by Yami, Pharaoh of the eastern lands, and the other by King Seto, the lord of the western empire. Although these two have conquered a great deal, other kingdoms still exist, such as the Wheeler hoard, and the theocracy of the eye. Our story begins in a small town, on the edge of Yami's grand empire.
