Unnamed Drabble

A/N: This was written after my birthday night out last year, at the time I was working my way through the Kathy Reichs books so I played around with the writing style. It was originally posted in my LiveJournal under the username PureRose.

None of these characters are actually mine, I've just borrowed Angela, Brennan, Zack and Booth for 272 words, but it was fun playing with them and I'm pretty proud of this story.

I bend low, surveying the table before me. Booth nervously shifts his weight beside me. He's not exactly helping but I resist the urge to tell him this.

For a moment I glance up. Angela is giving me that look. The one which tells me to be a little less scientific and a little more human. It's a look I've come to know well.

Turning back to my subject I frown slightly. I start to make a move but stop when I hear Zack coughing behind me. He probably didn't mean to distract me, it's an uncontrollable response after all, but for the moment I'm thrown off.

I straight up a little and shift slightly to the right. This is probably a better position. Before resuming my stance fully I look back at Booth, he's moved back to give me more space. His hair is mussed from running his fingers through it. His tie is loosened. He gives me a nod so slight I almost miss it.

I don't know why I suddenly need his approval for this. I mean, it's hardly like this is something new to me. Granted, this time the stakes are much higher.

Before returning my gaze to the table I check Angela's expression. She looks anxious; she's twisting that paper in her hands so violently I worry it might tear.

Taking a deep breath I return to my original position, back arched slightly, and I let it out with a faint hissing sound.

"Bones?"

That's it. I take my cue.

The black ball sails into the pocket and Booth hugs me.

Reluctantly Angela hands over the cash.

A/N: Can you guess where we went for my birthday?
